Objectives:

Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML.
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS.
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.

Process:

I created the web page using HTML and CSS code. I inserted the image of the Nashville skyline working
with divs. I used this image and my logo (created in Illustrator) to determine my color scheme. I found
these colors by placing my images in photoshop and using the eye dropper tool to get their hex code. I
used the float option, padding, and line breakers to move my create more white space.

Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so
the text follows the cutout shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.

Process:

In Adobe Illustrator I created the logo with a complimentary color shceme. In Adobe InDesign I set up
the layout of my brochure by sectioning out the page. In Adobe Photoshop I used the quick selection
tool to cut out the image of the strawberry and wrapped my text around it. I put a picture filled image
of my logo on the front page so that it could be cut out easily. I made the pages shades of green, and
put rules under my header that were red to keep the color scheme going and add better flow and
alignment.

Program(s):
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous
designs. Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information.

Process:

Adobe Illustrator was used to create the logo. I used the pen tool, and two different fonts to create
it. I then transferred this over to Adobe InDesign where I created the actual card. To create the icons
within circles I switched to Illustrator and used the pen tool to create them. The shape tool helped me
to create the circles that are used throughout the design.

Process:

Using Adobe Illustrator, I created 3 different logos for this brand. I surveyed a variety of people to
find the most popular one. I edited and refined this particular logo as it was a crowd favorite. To
create it I used the pen tool for the state shape. I then used two different fonts to create the company
name. I focused on flow, and also chose colors that were particular to the state of Tennessee.

Program(s):
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice)

Process:

I cropped the background image to 7.5 by 11. After inserting the picture of the Savior I used the
mask tool to create an opaque layered affect with the map, the sun, and the clouds. I was able to do
this using the brush tool with 0% hardness, and varying opacities. I added text using two contrasting
fonts. To highlight key words, I adjusted the font colors so the important words were not only different
fonts, but different colors as well.

Objectives:

Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)

Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:

I scanned this image in from a magazine and create a black background around it for negative space.
Working to simplify, I kept monochromatic color scheme using the visual design color wheel. I aligned
the image and text with lines bleeding off the page. The title was made larger to begin the hierarchy,
with a sans serif font to add to the simplicity of the ad.

CONFERENCE

Description:

Black and white promotional flier for graduating students to a leadership conference directed to
graduating students.

Date:

January 23rd 2016

Course/Instructor:

Program(s):
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.

Process:

After determining the message and audience, I sketched out several options for the flier. Using
Adobe InDesign I was able to make my design come to life, really focusing on gestalt with the
gradient throughout the image. I had to work carefully to keep the alignment so the flier was unified.
Contrast was also a crucial element. The image and logo were both provided, but I enhanced them by
elongating both images and applying the gradient.

Photo Design
Description:

Show photography skills, as well as photo editing and design. Using the original photo, create a layout
using the colors from the image and establish a color scheme.

Date:

February 5th, 2016

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 05
Ben Pingel

Program(s):
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Learn basic photography skills.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (nondestructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

Process:

After taking this picture, I was able to adjust the image using levels, vibrance, color select, and
sharpen. I used the dropper tool to match the color wheel as well as the image. Having previously
decided on an analogous color scheme, I focused on using brick, gold, and orange and making sure to
mute them. When I created the 3 boxes I used the opacity tool to give it more texture. I also focused
on alignment, and stretched out the image using the selection tool and also adding more boot and
concrete using the healing brush tool.
