Overview
The ever-popular and highly successful Pulsar series receives a new addition with the
release of Bajajs revamped Pulsar 150, a performance commuter motorcycle that has been fully
updated to compete with new rivals such as Hondas CBF Stunner and Suzukis GS150R. It was
one of the first 150cc bikes to be released to the Indian market, so does this new version break
new ground or simply reinforce the market position of the 150?
Design and Style
The new Pulsar 150 model is designed with the all-black design theme of the elder
Pulsar sibling including the shock absorbers, alloy wheels and engines but overall it bears a
striking similarity to its sibling, the Bajaj Pulsar 180. There are plenty of stylish touches,
including the smartened heel and toe levers and the bikes newly refined tail. Its updated razorsharp taillight is unique and distinctive perhaps the best part of the updated design. Overall, the
bikes exterior is stylish and sleek, an improvement on the previous version. However, its
unfortunate that Bajaj didnt choose to update the Pulsar 150 to feature the same split seat
configuration as the Pulsar Bajaj 180.
Instrument Console
Bajaj Pulsar series has been steadily upgraded to feature digital instrument consoles. It is
also equipped with the digital console, including digital speedometer, odometer, low-fuel
warning and fuel gauge.

Engine and Gearbox

Bajaj Pulsar 150 is powered 150cc engine which develops maximum power of 14.9 Bhp
at 9000 rpm with maximum torque of12.5 Nm at 6500 rpm. The bike is fitted with a five-speed
manual transmission gear box.
Acceleration and Top Speed
The major flaw with the previous Pulsar 150 was its acceleration and gear shifts many
drivers complained that gear shifts were awkward and noisy, and that the bikes power felt
underwhelming. Thankfully, Bajaj seem to have fully addressed the issue with the new version
of the Pulsar 150. The 150 is now equipped with a 1-up, 4-down configuration, much alike that
of the Pulsar 180. In addition, the Pulsar 150 has Bajajs patented ExhausTEC (Torque
Expansion Chamber) technology, improving the engines torque when operating at low revs,
giving the bike improved pick up and acceleration. The bike can make the jump from 0 to 60
kmph in an impressive 5.6 seconds, putting it at the top of its class. It has a maximum speed of
115 kmph. The bike gives excellent pick-up in any gear, and the linear acceleration is generally
strong, although there is a noticeable drop at around 95 kmph.
Mileage
Under test conditions, the Pulsar 150 returns an average fuel mileage of 40-50 km/kmpl
on city roads, and an average of up to 62 km/kmpl on highways. Bajajs performance
motorcycles have always suffered from high fuel consumption and unfortunately the Pulsar 150,
like the other Pulsar models, guzzles fuels at a pretty high rate, which pushes up the cost of
running the bike particularly if youre a regular city commuter. Its petrol tank has a capacity of
15 litres, with a reserve capacity of 2 litres.
Comfort While Driving
Due to its staunch shock absorbers, the Pulsar 150 is a high quality ride. Its suspension
is clearly designed to provide an insulated ride on city roads. The bikes seat is wide and
comfortable, although some drivers will wish for the updated split seat setup seen on the other
Pulsar models. On the 150, the pillions seat is slightly elevated above the drivers, which some
may find unsettling.

Safety Features
Bajaj Pulsar 150 is equipped with a powerful front headlamp 12 volts, full DC with 2
35/35 W pilot lamps - for improved illumination during night time rides. Its front disc brake
provides superior performance and greatly reduces the bikes stopping distance to prevent
accidents and collisions. Wide leg guards help to protect the driver in the event of a fall.
Storage Space
The bike does not feature any on-board storage space, as is typical of performance
motorcycles of this type.
Suspension and Brakes
It is equipped with telescopic 135mm stroke suspension at the front, and at the rear
is triple-rated spring, five-way adjustable suspension with 105mm travel nitrox shock
absorbers. The suspension does a decent job of absorbing potholes and bumpy roads, but is sadly
not up to challenging road surfaces riders should certainly stick to well-maintained city roads
to avoid the jolts and vibrations.
The Pulsar 150 is equipped with 240mm disc brakes at the front and 130mm drum brakes at
the back. The large, powerful front brakes make all the difference here smaller drum brakes
would not be an equal match for its capable engine, but the sized-up disc brakes are suited to the
challenge. When applied, the brakes bring the bike to a quick and stable stop, with a braking
distance from 60 to 0 kmph on 16.33 meters, which puts it equal with other Pulsar models and
ahead of many of the competition.
Ride and Handling
Compared to other bikes in the 150cc class, the Pulsars handling is athletic and nimble.
Thanks to the patented ExhausTEC system, the bike is highly manoeuvrable in city traffic and
built-up areas. However, at low speeds the Pulsar 150 can lack responsiveness and agility. The
bike is a decent all-rounder it doesnt excel in any particular area, but ticks all the boxes for a
commuter motorcycle.

Tyre Size
At the front, the It has a 90/90 x 17 tubeless tyre; and at the back a 100/90 x 17 tubeless
tyre. The wheels are 17-inch alloys. In general, the tyres perform well, giving a stable and
comfortable ride on a variety of road surfaces, and cope well with wet and slippery conditions.

and

PERIODICAL CHECK UP and SERVICING:

For Two Wheelers the general and Periodical Check ups are needed and also servicing at
regular intervals, so that they will give good and Trouble free performance. The Servicing is also
should be done as per the Weather conditions also. By doing periodical checkups to the vehicle
we may Prevent a major Trouble there by minimizing the repairing expenditure.

2. Preventive Maintenance For Two wheelers

For Mechanical Preventative Maintenance
1. Keep the chain and sprocket clean and adjusted. Check the chain for excess slack and look
for any signs that the chain has been slipping on the sprocket. This is much like you did to your
bicycle when you were a childyou just can not flip the motorcycle over! Put the bike on the
belly stand and spin the back wheel. Look at the teeth on the sprocket to make sure none of them
are broken or wore down.
2. Check all of the motorcycles wiring for any signs of wearing thin. Some wires will rub on
the frame and may become pinched or broken. Simple preventative maintenance can save them
from getting to that condition.
3. Look the engine over for any signs of an oil or gas leak. You can do this by checking the
ground beneath the motorcycle every time you park it somewhere. Make sure the spot you park
in is clean. If there is oil or gas under the bike when you leave then it is from your motorcycle
and you will need to determine where it is leaking.
4. Remove the motorcycle seat, or side cover to access the battery. Make sure that all connections
are tight and that there is no corrosion. Follow the cables with your hand as far as possible to
search for any visible kinks or fraying of the battery cables.
For Appearance Sake
1. Keep the motorcycle clean to safeguard the paint and chrome. The elements are hard on
paint and chrome. The motorcycle will pick up dirt and grime every time it is ridden. This tip is
especially important if you live in an area where there is sand or an ocean. Sand and salt water

will cause the chrome to pit and possibly peel. Sand can become lodged in the chains or driving
gears.
2. Wax the motorcycle to protect the paint. Sun will fade the paint over time. Applying a good
coat of wax will insure that the paint stays bright and shiny. Waxing will also help remove any
dead paint or embedded dirt that remains behind after a good hand washing. Dont forget to
apply a chrome polish if your motorcycle sports a lot of add on chrome.
3. Keep the seats soft and supple by using a quality leather cleaner and conditioner. Without
treatment the motorcycle seats will become dry and brittle due to the sun and the elements.
Keeping the seat maintained will avoid the expense of having to replace it.
For Safety Preventative Maintenance
1. Prevent an accident by checking to make sure all of the lights on the motorcycle
work. Look for cracks or loose screws in all of the lens covers. Headlights, tail lights, break
lights and turn signals make you more visible to those you share the road with. If a light does not
work, replace it before you ride.
2. Check the air pressure in the front and back tire. Refer to the owners manual or the tire
manufacturer for the suggested amount of air. Driving a motorcycle with the wrong tire pressure
will not only cause excess wear on the tire, it is dangerous. A low tire does not grip the road well
and it will affect the way the motorcycle handles.
3. Adjust the headlight beam if necessary. The headlight should not shine to the left or right. The
headlight should not shine onto the ground directly in front of the motorcycle. You can prevent
an accident by making sure you can see the other vehicles and they can see you.

3. Periodic Maintenance Schedule: Motorcycles

The maintenance schedule is based upon average riding conditions, motorcycles subjected to
severe use or ridden in dusty areas will require more frequent servicing.

Three Wheeler Maintenance:

A list of three wheeler maintenance tips is given as follows:
Check the Engine Oil : As you might know that the three wheeler engine is largely
dependent upon the engine oil, the level of it should not be allowed to go down below the
recommended one. In most of the cases, 2T oil is used as an engine oil. 2T oil minimizes the
fouling of the spark plug and pre-ignition. It also reduces the chance of deposit formation and
rusting. But there is a ratio in which it should be mixed with the fuel. For a liter of the fuel, you
must not add more than 20 milliliter of 2T oil.
Drive at an ideal speed : Three wheelers must be driven between a speed of 35 km to
45 km in order to ensure longevity of the engine. The engine of the vehicle should be warmed up
before you press hard on the accelerator. For this you need to drive the three wheeler in lower
gear for some time.
Regularly check the air pressure of the tires : For better performance and smooth
driving of the three wheelers, the tires of the vehicle must have optimum air pressure. Inadequate
air pressure may lead to problems while maneuvering the three wheeler.
Check working of the braking system of the three wheelers : The break clearance
should be perfect and there should be sufficient brake fluids. Often it is seen that dust gets
accumulated on the braking system that hampers its functioning.
