Title: Achievements in renewable energy India for FY 2015-16

FY 2015-16 has been an exciting time for renewable energy projects and the industry at large.
Development of renewable resources has been hugely emphasized upon by the Ministry and
Central Government all throughout the fiscal. Firstly, the Government has scaled up the
renewable energy capacity target to 175 GW by the year 2022 under the Jawaharlal Nehru
National Solar Mission. If the target is met, India will become one of the worlds biggest green
energy producers. Renewable power generation capacity increased impressively by 2, 311.88
MW in the fiscal through solar, wind and other renewable resources. 1, 400 MW of added solar
power generation capacity has already been targeted by the Centre for this fiscal and adding the
earlier figure, the cumulative generation capacity from renewable sources will touch 24, 6777.72
MW. 2, 400 MW of wind power generation capacity was targeted by the Government for the
fiscal. By October, 106.55 MW was already added, taking total generation capacity to 4161.90
MW in this particular segment.

RE-INVEST (First Renewable Energy Global Investment Promotion Meet & Expo) 2015 was a
huge achievement and showcased not just mega renewable energy projects in India but also
the countrys overall energy efficiency, technological expertise and Government supported
initiatives. The meet had 200 global investors, 118 exhibitors, 202 speakers and 2500 delegates
from 32 countries. Renewable finance commitments worth 70, 000 MW were given by PSUs,
private companies, banks and financial institutions at the event. An International Solar Alliance
was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the CoP21 Climate Conference held at Paris.
The participants of the Alliance will work in tandem to scale up solar capacity across emerging
markets.
56 of the targeted 60 solar cities have been approved by the Government while several other
solar power projects are being developed in India. Intra-state transmission systems are steadily
being set up by the Centre in partnership with state Governments for distributing renewable
energy directly to consumers. There are several other schemes that have been effected for
achieving renewable energy targets in the fiscal, namely the setting up of 25 solar parks, off-grid
solar rooftop programmes, dedicated wind energy policy and several other initiatives. Welspun
IPP is one of Indias biggest renewable energy producers and is coming up with mega projects to
meet the ambitious target set by the Centre for 2022. The company remains committed towards
making India cleaner and more efficient in terms of power consumption.
