FUNCTION

DIGITAL INPUTS
1

The digital input 1D has been given the NO contact of auxiliary contactor d2. The HFSR soft-starter will only be
ready to start if the auxiliary contactor d2 is ON & F/B is received at 1D. If in any case the F/B of d2 is not

received at PLC, Then HFSR will not be ready to start. The reason for HFSR not being ready are already
described in R1 relay logic.
The digital input 2D has been given the NC contact of the main VCB. After the changeover of this contact, PLC
NC
Contact
of
the
main
VCB
will receive the signal of Motor starting & will start to operate accordingly. If this F/B is not present during power
2D
ON, Then the PLC will not allow HFSR soft-starter to be ready. Relay R1 is used to operate d2

3D NC Contact of the bypass VC / VCB

The PLC will itself turn ON & OFF the bypass device using relay R2 & monitor its action at (This input ) 3D.if
any irregularity / undesired action is found , then PLC will trip the motor & show the respective fault on HMI.

4D NO Contact of Door Limit Switch

The HFSR Soft-Starter will not be ready if the doors of the HT power side are not properly closed.

5D Dynamic Compensator contact

DYCO feedback.

8D Remote Reset command if required

If HFSR soft-starter is to be reset from remote location, then PLC will reset only when NC is received at this
input. The remote reset command NO is given to this input. This is required if soft-starter has tripped with fault.

ANALOG INPUTS

1A Starting current sensing Analog Input

Running Current Analog Input (Not

applicable in this case )
Dynamic Compensator Analog Port
3A
(Not applicable in this case )
4A HFSR Temperature Sensing Port

4-20mA input to PLC is given from Transducer. The PLC monitor the Motor starting current & operates the
bypass device after motor has reached the full speed & cureent < FLC.
This port monitors & displays the running currents.
This port monitors the DyCo current & takes action accordingly.
This port continuosly monitors the HFSR Temeperature through Temperature sensor. If Temperature of HFSR
exceeds beyound safe value ( 80 deg C ) then HFSR soft-starter will trip the Motor.

RELAY OUTPUTS
Usually R1 ON as healthy & it turns OFF for following conditions.
- If D2 [supervisory ] feedback not present.
- External interlock (if any) is not present.
- If Emergency stop PB is pressed.
Supervision Relay for Healthy
- When main VCB f/b is lost during power On or it is not present [wire cut etc] .
Condition
- If bypass feedback is not present or not restored as per the desired conditions. [ bypass device fail ]
- When any of the door is open
- When dynamic compensator feedback is not present or restored as per desired conditions. [DyCo contact fail ]
- If any of the above fault has occurred, then the specific faults are displayed on HMI screen.
- In remote reset condition, if remote reset signal is not received at PLC
Bypass event control relay
- Usually OFF, when motor starts then PLC starts monitoring current of the Motor.
Motor current reaches to FLC, R2 turns On, in turn to close the bypass device.
Bypass VC / VCB Closing Relay
During starting, if any fault occurs, R1 turns OFF & R2 will remain OFF.
Note: In case of emergency stop. During starting event of the motor, R2 will turn ON to turn on the bypass device
to protect HFSR
Bypass event control relay
- Usually OFF, when motor is running condition & if it is stopped in a healthy way, then R3 turns On which in
turn open the bypass device to make panel ready for next start.
Bypass VC / VCB Tripping Relay
- If bypass device is already closed due to some fault, then R3 will be On when panel is reset to open the bypass
device.
Relay Dynamic Components control relay.
- When panel is healthy & R1 is On R4 will be On, which closes the DyCo contact
Dynamic Compensator VC / VCB
Operating Relay (Not applicable in this - R4 will turn OFF as per the Motor starting current characteristics.
- During any fault in the Dynamic Compensator side, if panel is healthy & R1 is On, then if R1 is turned OFF &
case )

R6 Fault Relay

R6 is usually OFF. Whenever any fault occurs R1 is turned OFF & R6 is turned On. R6 turns OFF once the fault
is cleared. R6 is used for visual lamp indication, for quick attention.
