1.)What contributions have been made by disabled in our society?

[KU 10]

Hey little boy what are you whispering?

Your tears are cold and story untold, every day we do everything the same,
Maybe we should just stop for a while and listen to them sing
We walk on the same ground, breathe in the same air.
Take a moment close your eyes can you hear us? Feel our love
You and I For people with disabilities
By: Unicef

This stanza implies how the disabled are being treated, how were ignoring them, and
forgetting their existence. Disabled is define as the limit in someones movements, senses or
activities also contribution is define as a gift or payment to a common fund or collection.
(according to the Webster Dictionary).
I will be displaying the contributions made by the disabled in our society in the areas
speech, music, organizations, via educational wise, and church.
Firstly, Education is a building block in any society, thus we have in some schools
teachers with disabilities who are still teaching and helping to mold young youths. Ms. Pinder a
Health and Family Life teacher at C. R. Walker has a speech disability her voice can only go so

high. She wears a device that helps her to project her words when speaking. Also, Mrs. Cox a
Biology teacher at C. R. Walker is half deaf, she wears a hearing aid to help her hear better. They
both continue to teach through their situations. This is a contribution being made to schools
educational wise, by disable people in our society.
Secondly, The Bahamas is said to be a Religious nation, we see this by the many
different churches. Apostle Gilbert J Rolle, was a blind pastor in the Bahamas who continues to
preach the word of God and getting people ready for Jesus second coming. Pastor Rolle has
made contributions to the society via church wise. His role was to win souls for Christ thus
promoting peace.
Next we have, Dr. William Thompson. He is the senior pastor of Faith United
Missionary Baptist Church, Nassau, Bahamas. The goal of Dr.Thompson is also a disable person
(he was anti-vaccine) who has and still is contributing to our society by being a motivational
speaker. He has spoken to various graduations, motivating graduates to do their best and to
become something in life. Dr. Thompson is also a psychologists. (Someone who works with
people experiencing difficulties, such as mental health disorders including anxiety and
depression.) He never allowed his disability to stop him from his job.
When playing an instrument being able to see is definitely helpful, right? Arthur Blake also
known as Blind Blake was an American blues and ragtime singer and guitarist. He is known for
his series of recordings for Paramount Records between 192 and1932 and the mystery
surrounding his life. He contributed to society via music/singing mainly and he never allowed his
disability to stop him from contributing to our society.

Lastly, The Bahamas Association for the Physically Disabled, B.A.P.D., is a nongovernment organization currently owned and managed by business tycoon and humanitarian Sir
Durward Knowles, with the assistance of private and pub;ic donations and a yearly monetary
grant from the Bahamas Government. B.A.P.D donstes wheelchairs to the disable and sometimes
take them on field trips. But it doesnt stop here! Not because we have BAPD means disabled are
being well treated and cared for. Even if they are, we still have to come together and rise monies
to give to BAPD so that they could enhance more for disabled. They cant do it themselves.
Disabled have contributed a lot to our society for us to be ungrateful and give them bad
treatment. We just needs to open our eyes and take the time to see the influences they have made
via educational, church, motivational speech, music and organizations. Although they may be at
a disadvantage from a normal person they are still powerful in their marks on our society.

3.) Using biblical reference show how Jesus cares for disable.[KU 10]

Your disability will never make God love you any less

Not because of your disability, God will love you any less. He will display the same amount
of love for everyone. In the Bible God showed his love for disabled by allowing his son Jesus to
be able to heal them.
Firstly, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on a Sabbath day. A women who had been
disable for 18 years was there. She was bent over and could not stand up straight. Jesus saw her
and asked her to come to him. He said to her Women, you will no longer be disabled. I am
about to set you free. Jesus placed his hands on her. At that very moment she stood up straight
and praised God. This shows how Jesus used his gift to care for the disable. (Jesus heals a disable
women on the Sabbath day , Luke 13 :10-14)
Secondly, Jesus went to Bethsaida; and they brought him a blind man, and asked him to
touch him. Jesus took the blind man by his hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had
spit on his hands, and placed his hands upon him, Jesus asked him if he could see. The man
looked around, and said I see men as trees, walking. After that Jesus put his hands on his eyes
again, and made him look up, and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. And Jesus then
sent him away to his house, saying Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. Just
the touch of Jesus sight was restored to a man. Jesus cared for him so much that he helped him
not be disabled anymore. Is this not love? (Jesus heals blind man in Bethsaida. Mark 8:22-26)

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had came
back home. They gathered in large numbers that there was no space left in the room, not even
outside the door, and Jesus preached the word to them. Four men came, bringing to Jesus a
paralyzed man. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an
opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat that the man was
lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, Son, your sins are forgiven.
Various teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, Why does this fellow talk
like that? Hes blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone? Jesus immediately knew in
his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, Why are you
thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, Your sins are forgiven,or
to say,Get up, take your mat and walk? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has
authority on earth to forgive sins, So he said to the man, I tell you, get up, take your mat and
go home. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. Another example of
Jesus caring for the disable.(Jesus forgives and heals a paralyzed man, Mark 2:1-12)
Jesus went to Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee into the region of the Decapolis. There,
Jesus was brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and the people begged
Jesus to place his hand on him. Jesus took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus placed his
fingers into the mans ears. Then he spat and touched the mans tongue. Jesus made a deep sigh
and looked up to heaven and said Ephphatha! Hearing this the mans ears opened wide, his
tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(Jesus heals the mute and man, Mark
7:31,37)
Lastly, in front of Jesus stood a man with dropsy. Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees,
saying Is it lawful to heal on Sabbath, or not? But they kept silent. Jesus then took him and

healed him, and let him go. (Jesus heals the man with dropsy Luke 14). Even Jesus who is better
than us, He had never sinned, He was a just and pure man, never had any faults in Him, never
made a mistake, who was and still is the Son of God, never overlooked, criticize, discriminate, or
abused the disabled. Instead He healed, helped, and cared for the disabled.

7.) What do you think the Christian attitude towards the disabled should be? (JPR 10)

I feel that the Christian attitude towards the disabled should be positive. I think Christians
should display an attitude of patience, affection and motivation towards disabled people.
Christians ought to display a positive attitude towards the disable and help them to keep their
faith. Christians are to be Christ-like and display an attitude of love.
Patience, Christians are suppose to know how to deal with a disable person. They are
suppose to know how to be calm and collective towards their behavior. Sometimes a disable
person can make a mess or something but Christians are suppose to deal with it even if a
Christian dont want to do it. They should do it as if theyre doing it for God.
Affection, Christians ought to show love to the disable, because some disabled are facing
bad treatments and think that they are alone or have nobody or that nobody understands their
situation. This is where Christians come along and do their part. ( Romans12:10, Love one
another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor) meaning Christians ought
to love a disable person as if they were related and show them kindness and also support them.
Disabled need motivation because who knows, it can be a disable person who cold come
up with the cure for AIDS/HIV, Cancer etc. But how would we know if all we do is ignore their
existence and make them feel bad. We should never underestimate a person based on their
disabilities, The Christian attitude should be one of brotherly love and building up each other to
be a strong mass on society.

However, the attitude Christians display towards disabled are sometimes negative, sour
and arrogant. The Christians fell as if their better then disabled. Christians are the ones
sometimes to make disabled feel bad we can see this also in the church. Some Christians do not
want to sit next to the disable or even give them a chance.
In conclusion, I hold firm to my agreement that Christians ought to display a positive
attitude towards the disable. They are to be like Jesus and not treat the disabled like outcasts,
how the Pharisees did.

2.)Describe five problems experiences by the physically disable in the community.(KU-10)

He sat in a wheel chair, waiting for dark,

And shivered in his ghastly suit of grey,
Legless, sewn short elbow
Through the dark
Voices of boys rang saddening like a hymn,
Voices of play and pleasure after day,
Till gathering sleep had mothered them from him.
Disabled By: Wilfred Owen

This stanza indicates how the disable in our society cant be free to enjoy life because of
their state. Example being blind, walking disability, speech disability etc.
Physical disability pertains to total or partial loss of a persons bodily functions (e.g
walking , gross motor skills, bladder control etc) and the total or partial loss of a part of the body
(e.g a person with an amputation)
The disable in our society are facing struggles everyday because of the state they are in. I
will be listing the various struggles they face; such as Public transportation, Criticism,
Discrimination, Accessibility, Housing.

The disabled in our society are facing problems getting to and from places:

Public transportation is a major problem.

Public transportation is define as- any form of transportation than charge set fares, run fixed
routed, and are available to the public such as buses, subways, ferries, and trains. According to
google.
The disabled in the Bahamas are having a hard time getting on a taxi / bus because, these
vehicles dont have aentrance or exit for handicap people.
If a blind person wants to catch a 21A, how would they know which bus is a 21A?, They cant
see! Also there is no brile for them to read
What if a person has a speaking disability, how are they going to stop the bus? Some of these bus
drivers already stink or is have the loudest reggae songs playing where you could feel the
vibration of the music. How would the driver know when its their stop? If a person can not see
or speak, being able to be mobile independent is a gift the disabled long for.
Never judge a book by its cover!
We are very quick to judge a person by their appearance. A next struggle disable people face are
that instead of helping them we criticize them:

Criticism according to google is define as-

The act of passing judgement as to the merits of anything.

Everyday, because of the way a person walks or talks or if they look funny, we tend to pass
judgement! Disable people cant help it if they act or look a certain way. People now a days dont

have any heart or dont show any kindness anymore. Instead of being a friend to the disabled, we
tend to mock them and hurt their feelings. We point fingers at Disabled and show them no pity.
Why she look like that?

Discrimination
Treatment or consideration of

One thing humans are famous for is discrimination.

People scorn disable people because of the way they look, or act. We discriminate disable
because their not normal like us, people bully the disabled and give them bad treatment in our
communities. Sometimes we can hurt the feelings of a disable person and not knowing what they
plan to do after. Most disabled have low self-esteem because of their disability, we must be
careful in the way we treat them, in our community.

Accessibility according to google isEasy to approach, reach, enter, speak with or use.
We scorn disable people, making it hard for them to freely approach people or to make

friends with someone. Some disabled may be afraid to enjoy companionship because of the way
they look. Sometimes disable people can feel lonely and may become depressed, and because of
depression this can lead to suicidal thoughts. This also deals with sidewalks and pathways in the
community and church.
Where are they going to live?

Housing

Not all houses in society has ramps for disabled to get into hoes. Some disabled up to this
date are being lifted into homes. Sometimes the house door might not be wide enough for
disabled to get in.
Should they live outside?
Some houses in society has ramps, but just are to expensive and unaffordable. The Bahamas
already lack of jobs. How are people suppose to pay these house bills for infrastructure?
Houses with stairs.
How is a person with walking disabilities suppose to get up the stairs? By getting lift? What
if the person is really big or has nobody to carry them? Look at how the kitchens and bathrooms
are set up, disabled always need help, to cook and bathe.
In conclusion, the disabilities in our society are facing different struggles everyday in our
community, however we can come together and do something about it.

Public Transportation

We can provide a vehicle for disable people only, with a specialized driver by doing this we
can also be giving job to a jobless person.

Criticism

We cant stop people from talking down on other people, but we can lend a hand instead of
pointing fingers.

Discrimination

We can make the disabled feel comfortable around us and no scorn them.

Accessibility
We can make disabled feel welcome so they wont be afraid to freely approach us when

in need.

Housing
Provide special houses for disabled in an area, like a little hospital home for them.

If we come together and help disabled, we would make the society a better place for them to
live and feel welcome. Thus stopping some of the problems experienced by the physically
disable in our community.

5.) What additional service could be provided to improve the way of life of the disable? (JPR10)

I feel that additional services could be provided to improve the way of life of the disabled in
our society. This can be done by improving the home and environment, improving social well
being and manage hobbies and activities.
By improving home and environment we could consider and install ways or systems to make
their day to day life easier. Each of us have different needs and wants and ultimately it is
essential to remember that we are all human beings and so have the same basic needs. When
looking at this area lets look at Social Services. They can help disabled with some of their needs
for example, groceries. Social Services can provide food stamps/checks for disabled that isnt
working and really need the help. The food stamps/checks is given out every first of a month to a
local food store of your choice.
Improving social well being, If their interested get them a pet. Pets can be great companies.
It is also wise to check the abilities of the individual. By doing this we should not leave it up to
pets to make them feel comfortable, we must not show expression of disapproval of someone or
something on the basis of perceived faults or mistakes. We must not criticize.
Instead of doing that we worry about ourselves and our needs. We dont care, we treat them
different. We dont notice the disabled in our community. We just dont care.
In conclusion, I stand firm saying more can be done to help the way of life of the disable.
All these problems the disability are facing is because we as a society dont want to stand up to
the Governor and request that the disable get treated the same or better. Also I stated various

problems the physically disable in the community face from time to time and what we can do
about it. Public transportation, Criticism, Discrimination, Accessibility, and Housing. We can
stand as one and help the disabled.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I must say that this course work was really an educating experience for me. I
was one of those persons who didnt give the disabled a chance, I used to discriminate and mock

them. Doing this course work really made a change in mind for me. I now realize that the
disabled in our society have made many contributions and are capable of doing many more if we
allow them to. However, I hope you enjoyed reading my coursework.

Introduction
The disable in our society have over the years made a valuable contribution. It is of concern
however, that these people have not been given the care they deserve.

We know disabled as the forgotten people in our society. We ignore their existence, we
humiliate them. As a society we are supposed to stand as one to help the disabled. In my
coursework I stated various challenges the disabled face day to day and also ways we can solve
their problems and give the disable a better disabled a better life. Let us stand as one to help the
disabled.
