Eclipses and the Saros a Pathway in Life

If the Moon did not exist nor would we; the evolution of life developed on Earth because of the Moon
and its position in the heavens, this is an accepted view in scientific circles. The Moons governing
control of the ocean tides and its stabilizing influence on the tilt of the Earth (keeping the seasons as
they are) has made the Earth a perfect environment for evolution by providing millions of years of
stability.
Such facts as these may not have been known to our forebears, but they were aware of the Moons
importance from their own observations of its rhythms. The Moon, through its waxing and waning,
weaved a fabric of invisible threads through which mankind, flora and fauna were bound by laws of
nature.
The Moon is not a planet, it is a satellite of the Earth, and therefore not directly under the influence of
the Sun. The Moons relationship to the Sun is as a reflector of light. The monthly cycle of the Moon
through its phases gave earlier civilizations a means for measuring time, and the understanding that life
moved in cycles. The most current theory on the creation of the Moon states it was born of the Earth,
ripped from the surface by a collision with a minor planet billions of years ago. So the Earth gave birth to
the Moon, this event became fundamental to the evolution of life on our planet. Today, civilization is
expanding in knowledge and technology; this era is experiencing a rapidly changing way of life, in no
small part due to the birth of man-made satellites, an interesting piece of synchronicity to ponder!
Solar and Lunar eclipses represent another mystery; the many coincidences that come together to
present us with these spectacular events is actually something of a miracle. The Moons size, its orbital
position, and angle to the ecliptic resulting in this phenomenon are the most unlikely of coincidences.
One might legitimately ask Who built the Moon?
The fact that eclipses come in cycles was known in Chaldean times. The cycle known as the Saros is
considered the King. This is due to the cycle repeating in a special way, both solar and lunar eclipses
repeat to form series. A Saros series is born, grows in magnitude over time to a peak then wanes to end
with a small eclipse; the period for lunar eclipses is about 1300 years with an average of 70 cycles. Each
of us belong to both a solar and lunar saros series, we are connected through the eclipse season we
experience in utero. We do not necessarily each have the same series as each eclipse season brings with
it a change to the series in active phase. During the latter part of the 20th century there were 41 lunar
and 41 solar series active; this changes from time to time as an old series expires and a new one is born.
The principle of in utero astrological events being of significance is well established in astrology. Such
events are considered to be deeply embedded in our consciousness. Dane Rudhyar described them as
being deeply rooted in our past with the past representing hereditary or karmic overtones. In the words
of Walt Whitman: We contain multitudes, the psyche has many facets, some hidden, not necessarily
negative."
So what do these series of eclipses to which we are connected mean to us?

We are a thread within a cosmic web; we have a role in the grand scheme of things. Speaking from my
knowledge of the Lunar Saros (which I have researched for at least half a Saturn cycle), I see it as the
cosmos weaving eclipses from another time into our lives, our specific series has an individual message
that can provide a direction if we care to listen. In fact some people have a message so strong they live it
in an obvious manner. But it is important to realize this cosmic connection is a participative process, an
interrelationship, where cosmic energy and free will combine. Within each of us is found the source of
all journeys taken in life, the saros can be a signpost indicating a journey where it is possible to expand
our understanding of who we are.
It is the action of the Moon, the Earth, and the Sun, a trinity, that combine to create the message
brought from another time. Although each message is as varied as one natal chart to another there is a
basic theme, the journey is one of discovery. In life the cycle of karma and reincarnation is closely
wedded to fate and fortune, the outcome of the big decisions we make in life can depend on how we
react to our basic instincts, this can be a strange and challenging road to follow. The lunar saros has a
message closely connected to our karmic cycle, it points to a journey where if the meaning of it surfaces
within our psyche we can expand our potential, we can direct our energies knowing we are free to
choose our own path, truth lies within and without.
