INTERFACE ETHERNET
1. Introduction
The Ethernet technology is based on the idea of network points sending messages, in
a way essentially similar to a radio system. Each point has a switch of 48 bits, known
as MAC address, to ensure that all systems have different addresses in an Ethernet.
The communication of the data through Ethernet CNC SIEMENS makes use of the
TCP/IP protocol.
TCP/IP model, like many other protocols, can be seen as a group of layers, in which
each one solves a group of data transmission problems, providing a service well
defined for the protocols of the superior layer. These higher layers are logically nearer
to the user (application layer), deal with more abstract data and trust the lowest layers
protocols to translate data in a format that can be physically transmitted.
The SIEMENS Ethernet Interface put available an interface composed by a RJ45
socket (Ethernet pattern) in order to plug it to a PC or a Server. All other items
necessary for the communication thru Ethernet CNC SIEMENS must be acquired
by the customer (cables, hubs, TCP/IP configuration, routers, computer configuration,
boards, etc.).
2. Installation
This chapter will treat installation two parts: CNC and PC.
2.1 CNC
How to install and make the configuration of CNC with Fast Ethernet Onboard.
Remark: Procedures described below should be done by the manufacturer
during machine comissioning and may be eventually changed in case
of need.
2.1.1. Configuration
For Ethernet Onboard configuration it is necessary the following procedures:
2.1.1.1. CNC Parameters
This part of the procedure is to put CNC available in the Ethernet network:
(a) Press Menu Select key;
(b) Press Diagnostics softkey;
(c) Press > softkey;
(d) Press Bus TCP/IP softkey;
(e) Press TCP/IP diagnost softkey;

(i) Place the prompt in softkey Text line, and choose and type a name that will
be shown in the softkey related to this network path;
(j) Place the prompt in Text context line and type a complementary text to
complement of B9 topic;
(k) Place the prompt in softkey icon and choose (thru the
keyboard) the icon that should be shown in the softkey;
key in MDI
(l) Place the prompt in user name and type the name that will be given to the
Server Login;
(m) Place the prompt in Password and type the name that will be given to the
Server password;

(n) Place the prompt in Type;
(o) Press Activate drive softkey;
(p) Turn the machine off and then turn it on again.
NOTA: This resource is responsible to put available drive paths of PCMCIA,
USB and drive 3 , besides network addresses, thru logical drives
column.
Below is example of values to be used for network connections configuration:

2.2.3. Sharing Microsoft Network Directory
In order to put the access of a directory by CNC SIEMENS 828D it is necessary to
share this directory in the Microsoft network. See the procedures below:
(a) Through Windows Explorer select the directory to be shared with mouse
right button and select the option Sharing...;

2.2.4. Configuring computer name
In order to put available the access to Microsoft Network by the CNC SIEMENS 828D it
is necessary that the computer name is equal to the one in chapter 2.1.1.2 (i).
(a) Click with mouse right button in the icon My Computer and select the option

2.3 Network configuration test
In order to verify if the installations of PC and CNC are correct it is necessary to follow
the procedure below:
(a) Restart CNC;
(b) Open Run resource, as shown in the figure below:
(c) Type PING + IP from CNC and confirm thru the button OK
(d) Verify if the PING signal acquisition has obtained the Reply. In case of error
see the installation procedures for PC and CNC again.

INTERFACE ETHERNET
Ethernet SIEMENS is able to put available and obtain information thru Ethernet making
use of TCP/IP protocol. It is a resource that works in parallel to the resource of stocking
area of CNC resident programs. It differs only because of running programs, via
Ethernet, on line.
If the option Change is not active the program may not run.

3.4 Running an On Line program
SIEMENS puts available the program resource Extcall to run on line program for
machining (DNC).
The program to be called should be specified with the resource path (established in
chapter 2.1.1.2 - i) and the file name to be run.
Example:
N10 EXTCALL (A:\ sample.mpf ")
N20 EXTCALL (C:\SHARE\sample.mpf ")
N30 EXTCALL (\\192.168.24.42\eth\sample.mpf ")
NOTA: SIEMENS does not recommend to run machining programs directly in
the Ethernet network. This operation does not grant the constant and
enough dynamic performance. SIEMENS recomends the transference of
programs (thru Ethernet network) to a memory Compact Flash or USB.
