Simple present:

We use the simple present to talk about routines or activities we do all the time.
(+) I run 3 hours everyday.
( -) I dont run 3 hours everyday.
(?) Do you run 3 hours everyday?
When you talk about a third person you have to add an S to the verb and change the
aux. do for DOES.
(+) Carlos wakes up every morning at 8 AM.
(-) Carlos doesnt wake up at 9 AM.
(?) When does Carlos usually wake up?

Present Continuous:
Use the present continuous when you are talking about actions in progress.
(+) we are sleeping right now.
(-) They arent sleeping good these days.
(?) When are they sleeping?

Simple Past:
Use the simple past to talk about an action that started and finished in a specific time
in the past.
(+)Jennifer cleaned her room.
(-)Jennifer didn't clean her room.
(?)Did Jennifer clean her room?

Past Continuous:
Use the past continuous to talk about an action in progress in past which was
interrupted.
(+) I was running when I sprained my ankle.
(-) You werent running when you fell.
(?) Were you running when you fell?

Simple Future (going to):


Simple future to talk about a specific activity in the future.
(+) You are going to go to the movies tonight.
(-) You arent going to go to Applebees tonight.
(?) Are you going to go to the party tonight?

Future Will.
The future will talks about the idea of something occurring before other action in the
future.
(+) Laura will play the piano in the concert next month.
(-) Cesar will not play the guitar in the concert next month.
(?) Will katniss go to the concert next month?

Future Continuous:
Use the future continuous to express than a longer action in the future will be
interrupted by a shorter action in the future.
(+) You are going to be talking to Liam about the party next week.
(-) You are not going to be talking to Peeta about the party next week.

(?) Are you going to be talking to Drake about the party next week?

Present Perfect:
We use the Present Perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified time
before now.
(+) Josh has seen that chapter many times.
(-) Josh hasnt seen that chapter many times.
(?) Has Josh seen that chapter more than once?

Present Perfect Continuous:


We use the Present Perfect Continuous to express that something started in the past
and has continued up until now.
(+) You have been expecting them for 3 hours.
(-) You havent been expecting them for more than 5 hours.
(?) Have you been expecting them for more than 2 hours?

Past Perfect:
The past perfect talks about events that happened before now.
(+) You had practiced English before you started the school.
(-) You hadnt practiced French before started English.
(?) Had you practiced Portuguese before you moved to brazil?

Past Perfect Continuous:


The past perfect continuous is used to talk about a situation that was in progress
before other action or situation.
(+) Adriana had been expecting Luis for over 2 hours when he arrived.
(-) Adriana hadnt been expecting me for more than 3 hours.
(?) Had Adriana been expecting Paco for more than 5 hours?

Modal Auxiliaries:
The modal auxiliaries are: can, could, may, might, must, should, will, would.

Can
Is used to express availability or opportunity or to request or offer permission
(+) Javier can dance tango.
(-) Javier cant dance merengue.
(?) Can Javier dance salsa?

Could
Is used to express ability or to make suggestions or a request.
(+) James could participate in the contest.
(-) James couldnt go to japan in the summer.
(?) Could I use your computer to check my e-mail?

May
Its used to express possibility. It can also be used to give or request permission.
(+) Tatiana may be upset with you because you lied.
(-) Tatiana may not be upset for the fact that you lied.
(?) May I go to drink water?

Might
Its used to express possibility.
(+) Levid might drive to school.
(-) Mary might not take the bus
(?) Might I borrow your car this weekend?

Must
Its commonly used to express certainty, necessity or strong recommendation.
(+) Nancy must dress up nice if she wants to go to the dance.
(-) Nancy must not wear jeans for the gala.

Should
Its used to give advice.
(+) Juan should visit his girlfriend more often.
(-) Juan shouldnt visit his friends more often.

Will
Its used to represent ability, permission or necessity.
(+) Brenan will travel to Paris next week.
(-) Brenan will not travel to Brazil.

Would
Its used to create conditional verbs.
(+) Hermione would like to play poker.
(-) Hermione wouldnt like to play a board game.
(?) Would Hermione like to eat sushi?

Passive voice
Its used when the focus is on the action.
(+) The cd is kept in the box
(-) The cd isnt kept in the box.
(?) is the cd kept in the safe?

If conditionals
They are used to express that the action can only take place if a certain condition is
fulfilled.
(+) if I get very sick, I go to the doctor.
If I got the flu, I would take some medicine.
If I had got a very bad allergy, I would have gone to the doctor.

(-) If I dont get very sick, I wont go to the doctor.


If I didnt get the flu, I wouldnt take medicine.
If I hadnt got a very bad allergy, I wouldnt have gone to the doctor.
