Hiiii frnds
Im Sandeep Bhatia,i have given ONGC written test on 25 oct 2009 in Delhi,im frm
mechanical branch.
The pattern of exam was 40 general awareness questions and 80 technical question
s plus 4 subjective questions(2 general awareness and 2 technical) and there was
no negative marking.
First ill talk about general awareness. It consists of both current affairs knowl
edge and basic general knowledge which means that if u study newspaper daily & t
horoughly u can easily attempt 20 questions and if ur basic general knowledge is
good u can attempt rest 20 also(for this u can refer any general knowledge like
S Chand RS aggarwal).questions are of al type politics, sports, authors, economy e
tc..it also consists of two subjective questions which are for this time:
1)General awareness against global terrorism.
2)India's economic condition in recent recession time.
Second is technical part which according to me was very easy as compared to writ
ten test of all other companies like NTPC,DRDO,JSW etc..just u need to go throug
h the basics of all subjects,no need to in detail of any subjects, there were 5 6
numerical which were very simple and formula based.they were covering almost al
l subjects like KOM,SOM,FM,MV,Thermo,INDUSTRIAL,OR,PT,MS etc..It also consists o
f two subjective questions ,out of which one was from IC ENGINES-thermal eff was
given, mech eff was given,CV of fuel was given and BP was given..u have to calcu
late fuel consumption in Kg/hr and specific fuel consumption.Another question wa
s theoretical question-explain cutting tool materials and cutting fluids.
Wish for me and good luck for ur future.
Remember that NOTHING COMES WITHOUT HARD-WORK SO JUST WORK HARD AND LEAVE REST O
N GOD.
& also THE REAL TASTE OF SUCCESS IS AFTER STRUGGLE.

ays full effort will do d trick...d GK part was easy. You wil get the mark divisi
on fron deir site.
I appeared for the electrical section ...so i wil tell you the pattern for dat.
...questions wer from control systems...machines..instrumantation..a few from ci
rcuits n networks..b clear about the basics..dat wud solve quite a lot of dem..e
sp control sytems..stability stuff..n al the motor n generator basics..wat they
ask for are the basic ideas..few from non core areas like..semioconductor n gate
s ...
Sample questions in tech..
- numerical from sensitivity of meter..from instrumentation..
-numericals from CS stability part..Routh hurwitxzn all...tf is given n find whe
ther stable or not..
-machines some basic questions..transformer numericals..
-a few circuits..for the theorem stuff..
-a gate has high output wen both inputs are low....wich is the gate..options..EX
NOR and NAND,EXNOR n NOR..n so on
_a mosfet acts as which of the following in on position..Battery..capacitor..
-the voltage n current are given for the collector side...wid emitter grounded..
wats the efiiciecny..
problems from PGD..like load factor...divesity factor..numericals..
Sample questions from GK(mostly current affairs.....usu..day ask all historic s

-Global awareness on terrorism
-India during recession times
Tech
-Speed control of motors both series n shunt..compare advantages n disadvantages
-Paralleling of alternators..necessity n conditions
Prepare well....b sure about the basics..all the best!

hi guys
ravi this side and i have been selected in ONGC(mechanical) this year thru off c
ampus. i wud be telling u the pattern of examination and how to crack it based o
n my and my fellow's experiences.
the ques paper of ONGC is unique as comapred to other PSU's in the sense that th
e general awareness ques are tougher and the subject aptitude ques are toughest.
since ONGC has been recruiting from IIT and NIT's it becomes imp. for u all to
rise to taht level and this is want the company wants. talking abt this year que
s paper pattern, it had two parts General awareness and technical both having de
scriptive as well as objective ques with more no. of obj ques.
for obj. ques in GK refer a book by Mr.B.P.Singh of General awareness for IES an
d read newspaper daily.
for core(mechanical) solve R.K.Jain ques and especially the last chapter of gene
ral engg. this time many ques were asked from that portion.

and finally for the interview be prepared with the current indian polity(governe
rs,CM's,cabinet ministers), latest news in the paper and of course have a good k
nowledge of ur own papers.
cheers
ravi
