LESSON PLAN

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

LESSON ORGANISATION
Students Prior Knowledge:
- Familiar with some forms of ICT
- Connect numbers and names of numbers
- Compare, order and make correspondences
between collections of numbers
- Confidence with number sequences to and
from 1000
- Recognise, model, read write and orders
numbers
- Count collections to 1000 by partitioning
numbers using place value

Year Level: Year 2 Time: 10:00 11:00am Date:

Sustainability

Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
Identify place value by determining the number of ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands in a given number
Verbally repeat the displayed number students have made
Correctly and appropriately use ICT equipment to make iMovie
Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:
- Fully charge iPads
- Make sure iMovie is downloaded on iPads
- Check that everything works including the
interactive whiteboards

Provision for students at educational risk:

- Students with vision impairment require to sit
closer to the board and magnification
equipment for viewing task.
- Students with high functioning autism will work
with the teacher assistant to complete the
lesson and activities.
- Ensure the everyday teachers put behaviour
management into piece prior to the lesson.

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)
Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:
A check list will be created to determine:
- If the students can say the number found.
- If the students can write the number found.
- Were the students working together as a group
- Did the students find the task helpful?
- Could the students understand the task and what they were supposed to do?
- Did the students find anything difficult? If so, how could this be improved next time?
- Were the lesson objectives met?
Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:
Anecdotal notes will be kept on:
- Did the students take interest in the lesson?
- Did the students learn from the activity?
- Were all students participating in the task?
- How can the lesson be improved?
- Did the students have any difficulties?

LESSON DELIVERY (attach worksheets, examples, marking key, etc, as relevant)

Time

Motivation and Introduction:

10:00am

1, 2, 3 eyes on me.

I need you all to stop what you are doing put your hands on your
heads and look at me.

I need you all to pack up what you are doing and come and join me
on the mat.

Teacher will introduce the lesson by letting students know that they
will be continuing their metal detector activity with making the iMovie.

Teacher will play the YouTube clip on place value.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

10:10am

10:30am

The teacher will then ask the students what they know about iMovies
and if anyone has made an iMovie before.

The class will complete a brainstorm on how much everyone knows

about iMovie.

If the students have some knowledge about iMovie the teacher is just
able to guide them, but if they do not have much knowledge of the app
the teacher can help the students learn how to use the app and once
they have picked up how to use it the teacher can them step back and
watch the students navigate the app themselves.

The students will find their group of 4 or 5 and find a desk to work at.

10:40am

10:50am

11:00am

As the students are working on their iMovies the teacher will wonder
around the classroom asking children question on place value making
sure that all of the children have picked up all the aspects they need to
know.

Once the children have finished the iMovie they will need to show it to
the teacher to see if there needs to be any improving or maybe they are
short on the resources they needed to include.

When all of the children have finished the iMovies and they have been
checked all of the students will have the opportunity to show the class
what they made, using the interactive whiteboard.

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

- Students will now have the opportunity to create their own dynamic
padlet uploading their iMovie onto it. This then gives all students
access every class members iMovie. Children are then able to watch
these videos as an assistant if they forget something or get a little
confused. (Students have used dynamic padlet before)

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

- Students will be asked to pack away everything and make sure that
the iPads have been packed away and put on charge.
- Each faction one at a time need to stand up wash their hands grab
their hat and then head outside to get their recess.
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?
- The teacher will assess each of the groups using a checklist to mark off
the students that completed the task in the one lesson.
Checklist:
- Ability to determine the number of tens, ones, hundreds in a given
number.
- Use correct mathematical language when repeating the value of a
number or whole numbers.
- Operate iMovie correctly and successfully.
- Ability to use ICT effectively during place value activities.
