Guided since our founding in 1912 by the missionary vision of the

Paulists, committed to the mission of Jesus, and dedicated to be
welcoming to all, we, the community of St. Philip Neri, strive to
reach out, to reconcile and to promote unity for all Gods
creations through worship, education, and service toward the
common good.

Fourth Sunday of Easter April 17, 2016

FIRST EUCHARIST CLASSES
Preparation classes for First Eucharist continue this
Sunday, April 17 at 10:40 in the church. First Communion
will be May 1 at the 9:30 Liturgy.

SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEK

We will take up the collection for the Catholic Home
Missions Appeal next weekend. This collection supports
catechists, seminarian education, lay ministry training, and
other pastoral programs in needy dioceses across the
United States. Visit: www.usccb.org/home-missions for
more information.

ADORATION
Consider joining the group who spend an hour each
month to sit with the Lord in our daily chapel. We are
always looking for people to be join the schedule or to
substitute for someone unable to come. We provide
spiritual reading material---or bring your own. Good
time for Journaling or writing cards to family and
friends. For more information contact, Dorene Dehen
(DoreneDn@comcast.net 503-704-3155 cell)

MORE EASTER FLOWER THANKS

It is a good thing that our Easter season runs for 50
days until Pentecost! It gives us time to catch up! More
'Thanks for the Flowers!' goes to the Altar Society who
also contributed money for the Easter flowers in
Memory of their deceased members.

BARBEQUE GRILL
Do you have a Weber style barbeque (or similar type
simple, round grill) that Fr. Bill can borrow for a cookout with the Young Adults on Friday, April 22nd? Contact
Fr. Bill 510-851-2782. Thanks.

FOOD PANTRY
Our food pantry is very low and we are in need of
donations. When you shop remember to pick up a few
items for our pantry. Needed: peanut butter (all sizes),
macaroni & cheese, cereal, canned fruit and vegetables,
pasta, tuna, canned meats, microwave individual serving
foods, granola bars, juice boxes, toilet tissue, bath soap,
shampoo, feminine products, individual snack items. We
keep Grab & Go bags for individuals, so items that are
single serve are very helpful as well as napkins, plastic
spoons are helpful extras.

WERE GLAD YOU ARE HERE

If you are new to the parish, visiting from across town, across the country, or other parts of the world, welcome & thank
you for worshiping with us! Fill out one of the Welcome Cards in the pew racks and drop it in the collection basket or
give it to one of the priests. Stop by after Mass and introduce yourself.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please call the office, 503-231-4955.

A WORD FROM SERVANT OF GOD ISAAC HECKER,

FOUNDER OF THE PAULIST FATHERS
This is the true position of the priesthood in the hierarchy of society. In placing
themselves in closer relation with the great fundamental truths of both the
natural and supernatural order, and in drawing their inspiration from these,
they will lead large numbers to see the interior life of the Church in a fresh
light, and open the way for their return to the Fold. [ On the Mission of New
Religious Communities, 1876]
If you have asked Father Hecker to pray for you or another person who is ill, and you
believe something miraculous has happened, please phone Fr. Paul Robichaud, CSP at
202-269-2519 and tell him your story.

SENIOR GATHERING
Our next Senior Gathering will be Tuesday, May 3, 12-2pm in Carvlin Hall. We
begin with a potluck lots of great food! This month our speaker will be Simone
Carter, Trauma Prevention Coordinator, representing the Trauma Nurses Talk
Tough program. Take the Right Steps will help us identify possible mobility
concerns at home, in the car, shopping & how to fall and what to do next, how
to catch yourself, who checks on you daily? Please plan to attend and share
our potluck and learn from our guest speaker. Bring a dish to share and bring
a friend. Dont cook? Feel free to stop by the deli of your favorite store.

EMAIL PRAYER TREE

The email prayer tree has 29 people who pray daily for your concerns and
requests. When we receive your request it is emailed to the Prayer Tree. If
you would like to join the Prayer Tree or if you have a request, contact

Pastoral Corner
PENTECOST RETREAT
Thank you to all who joined us for the retreat this last weekend at Oral Hull Park outside Sandy. Thirty-two people
from 7 parishes around Portland attended. The weather was perfect allowing us to explore the acres of beautiful
gardens and trails as well as the Jacuzzi and pool. On Saturday evening we had a catered meal followed by a
reconciliation service around the fire pit. The weekend was filled with good food, great conversation and lots of
reflection on mercy in ourselves, our parish communities, our local community and in the world. Everyone left feeling
refreshed and recharged.
If you were unable to attend this one, watch for announcements about future retreats. We look forward to more in the
months and years ahead. If you have ideas for retreat themes or facilities, let us know.
Thank to you Fr. Michael and Connie Ostlund
for facilitating the retreat and leading the
discussions, reflections, and prayers.
Thank you to the cooks, Robert George and
Rose Wolfe. Everyone left nourished in body,
mind and spirit.
