HOPEFULLY SPRING IS HERE TO STAY TIME FOR CLEANING THE CAPITAL AND

STREET SWEEPING Please avoid parking on the street until street sweeping is
completed. If the roads are blocked, crews must return later to sweep that portion, or it
doesnt get done and we get more dust in our eyes.
You can also help to get rid of the debris that accumulates over the winter by forming or
joining a Cleaning the Capital group. Pick up litter in parks, along streets and on vacant
lands, help remove invasive plants from our natural areas or remove graffiti. For details and
to register go to www.ottawa.ca/clean and bring back the beauty of our neighbourhoods.
TAXIS, LIMOUSINCES & PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION REVIEW Regulating
Vehicles-for-hire in the City of Ottawa A Council Committee has recommended how to
regulate Uber (and other companies) to Council. The Uber operation is in fact a taxi service,
but does not follow all laws. Every bylaw charge by the City found the drivers of Uber guilty
of breaking the law. However, many citizens found the service to be convenient and ignored
the fact that it was illegal. Times are changing with technology and this is one example of a
service that didnt fit the rules. Taxis have been heavily regulated and taxi drivers have
been following the bylaws, which cost them a lot, putting them at a disadvantage to Uber
drivers. I support the recommended changes, but feel the rules dont go far enough to level
the playing field between taxi and Uber drivers. So, I will seek some additional conditions so
that taxi drivers will not be driven out of a legal business where they have followed the law
for many years by a company that supported drivers who broke every law on vehicles-forhire in Ottawa.
OC TRANSPO University and college students voted to support a summer U-Pass
Program, so full-time students during the summer term will now have a U-Pass. Some route
changes start on April 24th so check your travel routes on April 25th for changes to commuter
runs. The 182 will now serve the eastern part of Terry Fox, the 188 is cancelled and other
times of some routes will vary. Im working with the Arcadia community to find changes for
their area and am liasing with OC Tranpso on route changes that will be needed in the fall
when the Innovation Park and Ride (now under construction details on my website) is
completed.
