1.2.6 Structure of GPS Antenna Feeder System With 1/4" Feeder Cable
When the 1/4" feeder cable is adopted, use the GPS feeder grounding kit to achieve
single-point grounding. The grounding kit is normally installed within 1m in front of
the introduction position of the feeder cable into the equipment room, and is also
connected to the outdoor grounding bar. Though the GPS feeder cable is relatively
long, it only needs single-point grounding.
9
Note:
The GPS grounding kit ground wire allotted with the equipment is 0.8 m long. Make
sure that the ground wire can be connected to the outdoor grounding bar before
installing the grounding kit.
The structure of the GPS antenna feeder system with the 1/4" feeder cable is shown as
in Figure 1.2 -6.

3.
After cutting, file the inner conductor lightly by using a file to satisfy the
requirement of 0.345. That is, file the head smooth and the rim of the head
into inclined plane, which is 45 with the inner conductor. The length of the
inner conductor corresponding to the slope is about 0.3 mm, as shown in Figure
2.1 -7. No burr is allowed in the inner conductor after the treatment; otherwise,
it may affect the quality of received GPS signals.
18
Figure 2.1-7 Processing of the 1/4" feeder cable inner conductor (unit: mm)
After the treatment in step 4 and 5, the dimensions of the 1/4" feeder cable are as
shown in Figure 2.1 -8.

4.
Brush away the debris on the 1/4" feeder cable, and apply the lubricant on the
outer conductor surface. Then put the O-shape seal ring on the fourth wave
trough on the outer conductor, as shown in Figure 1.4-8.
19
5.
Separate the front and rear parts of the feeder cable connector and insert the
feeder cable into the rear feeder cable connector until it contacts the first ripple
of the feeder cable. Revolve left and right to expand the outer conductor of the
feeder cable. Press it against the rear part of the feeder cable connector, which is
clamped in the first wave trough of the outer conductor finally, as shown in
Figure 2.1 -10.
5.
Screw up the front feed head to the rear part. After it is in place, wrench the
front feed head. Keep the rear feed head and feeder cable unmoved and then
wrench the front feed head. Apply the recommended moment of force of 7-10
Nm until it is tight. The process is as shown in Figure 2.1 -11.

The GPS 1/4" feeder grounding kit is easy to be installed and is contained with
waterproof clay. There is no need of waterproofing treatment.
Materials delivered to the installation field include:
Grounding kit main body (contained with tinned copper braid , two M625
outer hexagon bolts (contained with spring washers and flat washers)
one M825 outer hexagon screw (contained with spring washer and flat washer)
Among them, the M825 brass screw is used to connect the ground wire and grounding
bar.
In some special occasions, the following materials need to be prepared if the ground
wire should be made on the site:
Black 10 mm2 copper cored ground wire;
Grounding terminal (at the grounding kit side), grounding terminal (at the grounding
bar side)
Thermoplastic sleeve (black)
The structure of the ground wire is as shown in Figure 2.1 -13.
21
Strip the 13 mm-long skin at both ends of the copper core cable, and sheathe two
12 heatshrink tubes with the copper core cable;
2.
Press two terminals on both sides of the copper core cable with the hydraulic
pliers and use the hair dryer to blow the heatshrink tube until it shrinks on the
surface of the copper core cable and the terminal.
Note:
Shear both ends of the heatshrink tube evenly and make them closely contact the
grounding terminals and ground wire. If the heatshrink tube is broken, re-made it.
Installation steps of the grounding kit:
1.
Determine the position of the 1/4" feeder grounding kit, and cut the skin of the
1/4" feeder cable according to the size of the grounding kit (about 25 mm).
Sleeve the grounding kit at the stripped position of the 1/4" feeder cable.
2.
Fasten the terminals (two connecting jack) on the grounding kit with M6 outer
22
hexagon bolts, and then tighten the bolts to close up the grounding kit and fix it
at the cable connection position. Note that the spring washers and flat washers
contained with the M6 outer hexagon bolts shall be mounted between the bolt
head and grounding terminal as originally.
3.
Fasten the grounding terminal of the other side to the grounding bar with M8
brass screws. Mount that flat washers and spring washers in sequence.
4.
Apply a layer of copper oil on the exposed metal surface to make preservative
treatment.
23
Make the outdoor connector of the coaxial cable according to the methods
introduced in Section 3.1.1 Making Connector of GPS Coaxial Cable.
2.
Put the connector through the GPS sheath and lay the coaxial cable from the
GPS antenna to indoors.
3.
Wrench the outdoor connector of the coaxial cable to the GPS antenna
connector.
4.
Keep the GPS antenna unmoved and wrench the sheath to the GPS antenna.
5.
Fasten the sheath to the pole with the GPS antenna hoop.
6.
Cut around the coaxial cable at the distance of 1m away from the feeder window
indoors to make indoor cable connectors and indoor jumper connectors. To lead
the coaxial cable into the equipment room, make sure that the rain will not be
introduced into the equipment room. If necessary, make the drain pipe.
7.
Connect the GPS ground wire grounding kit to the N type F-F adapter indoors
and fasten it with bolts. The other end of the GPS ground wire is led through the
feeder window and connected to the outdoor grounding copper bar.
8.
Connect the GPS feeder cable with the N type F-F adapter.

Pull the copper core through the center hole of the little white insulation sheet.
Press the insulation sheet to the end against the cut surface of the insulation
layer, as shown in Figure 3.1 -22.
Dip the copper core with a thin layer of tin. There shall not be too much tin. If a
constant temperature solder iron is used, adjust the temperature of the soldering
bit to 350 and weld for 10 seconds. If a common solder iron is used, properly
increase the weld interval to fully melt the tin. Then insert the copper core into
the hole of the contact pin tail of the N type inner conductor. The end of the pin
shall be pushed against the insulation sheet. Heat externally and evenly with the
electric solder iron to complete welding, as shown in Figure 3.1 -23.
29
5.
Complete assembling.
Use the diagonal pliers to clean spare shielding layer, as shown in Figure 3.1
-24.
Sleeve the white insulation support ring and then the casing, as shown in Figure
3.1 -25.
30
Screw up the casing and tail connecting piece with the spanner, as shown in
Figure 3.1 -26. It is suggested to lay the thin cotton cloth under the spanner to
protect the external surface of the connector. The tightening torque shall be
within 0.98 and 1.2 Nm.
After the assembly, the pin head of the inner conductor shall be parallel and
level to the front end of the outer conductor.
6.
Upon visual inspection, the pin head of the inner conductor shall be parallel and
level to the outer conductor.
Test the assembly strength of the connector. Use the force moment meter to test
if the pull-out force is above 60 N. When there is no force moment meter, use
hands to test if it cannot be pulled out easily.
Test the resistance between the inner conductor and outer conductor with a
multimeter and the value shall be infinite.
Test the pin inner conductors on both sides of the feeder cable with a multimeter
and they shall be in conducting state.
Test the pin outer conductors on both sides of the feeder cable with a multimeter
and they shall be in conducting state.
Caution:
When the connector is used outdoors, adopt waterproofing measures such as winding
