Case Study

Problems Encountered By the Teachers in Having Differently Able Pupil.

Introduction
A teacher has the most complex job, a teacher has to be in school even before
the students arrive, he/she has to take care of the pupils and nurture them, it really
gives a person a lot of things to do, it even sends you home with a lot of paper works
waiting for you to fill them up. A teacher has to impart knowledge to everyone even to
those differently able pupils. Bringing differently able pupils into general education
classrooms should result in true, long-term acceptance for their peers and most
especially to the teacher. How inclusion happens varies with every school. The
approaches range from including students with disability on every level with no
separation to maintaining self-contained classrooms with only periodic mingling of
pupils. Some of the differently able pupils have the ability to excel, or some of them
have certain limitations in cognitive functioning and life skills such as communicating,
socializing and behaving. Because of these unusual characteristic of a pupil, a teacher
may encounter problems dealing with inside a diverse classroom.
Statement of the problem
This case study sought to answer the following:
1. What are the problems encountered by the teachers in having a differently able pupil
inside the classroom?
2. What are the things a teacher must do in dealing with such pupils?

Methodology
The research interviewed several teachers having differently able pupils in Dadiangas
North Elementary School.

Result and Conclusion

A teacher form Grade-I answered the first problem:

She had a hard time letting the pupil understand the lesson; she has to repeat
the lesson in order for the student to understand it.
The differently able pupil sometimes cried out loud during a lesson that it
interrupts the teacher during her lesson.

She had a hard time in imposing rules because that certain pupil werent able to
follow the rules that the other pupils dont follow as well.

Answers to the second problem:

She gives extra time after class to teach her differently able pupil.
She always repeats her instructions or rules for that pupil to follow.
Communicate with the parents of that certain pupil.

Another teacher from Grade-3 answered:

Her differently able pupil has this hyper active characteristic that shes having a
hard time controlling that pupil when that pupil starts to get active.
Being a hyper active pupil sometimes that pupil shouts out of the sudden and
starts to run around the classroom.

Answer for the second problem:

The teacher really gives time to that differently able pupil in order for that pupil to
follow her instructions inside the classroom.
Made a research on how to treat that kind of pupil.

Conclusion:
There are a lot of problems that the teachers encountered such as hyper activeness,
letting them understand rules in the classroom, the differently able pupils being bullied
by their peers that give a teacher a lot of things to do, extra effort to give for. Yet as a
teacher, one should have a solution for every problem a teacher encountered just like
promote equality in the classroom, every should be treated equally, Usually children with
special needs are more likely to be bullied compared to other students in the class. Set
common rules for the entire class and make sure that the differently abled student also
follows the rules and has equal rights in classroom. Another is communicating
frequently with the parents of differently abled children. Communicating
with parents of differently abled children is necessary because some parents think that no
one values their child because of their challenges.
