Part I: Outline

Thesis statement: There has been much discussion revolving around the issue of
whether college students should have part-time job. Some people assert that college
students are benefit from doing a part-time job while many others argue that doing a
part-time job has a negative influence on college students.

Argument 1: Part-time job will offer college students with more chances to develop
their interpersonal skills, which may put them in a favorable position in the future job
markets.

Counter argument and rebuttal: Having a part-time job is detrimental for students in
their college lives. According to the article Student part-time employment:
characteristics and consequences, the author David Robotham states that some
students may be destroyed by pressures (Robotham).

Argument 2: College students can get financial support from doing a part-time job.
Obviously, students can get some money from their part-time jobs to cover their daily
expenses.

Counter argument and rebuttal: Doing a part-time job may increase college students
financial burden. For example, the author Jacqueline Fitzpatrick states students get
less help from OSAP if they have a part-time job (Fitzpatrick).

Argument 3: Doing a part-time job can make the college students independent.

According to the article College students should have a part-time job, the author
states that college students, who have a part-time job, will not have to depend on their
parents for their needs (UWIRE).

Counter argument and rebuttal: Having a part-time job will affect

the college students result negatively. According to the article One
in five Oxford students has to work; Debts and lack of cash force
many to juggle part-time jobs with studies, even though college
authorities strongly discourage it, reports Becky Barrow, the author
states college students spend too much time on their part-time jobs
so that they have not enough time on their academic study
(Barrow).
