SESSION 5: INNOVATIVE, DISRUPTIVE

TECHNOLOGIES AND PROCESSES

Feeder Separation in MP
Vivek Kumar Porwal, IAS, Managing
Director, MPMKVVCL, Bhopal,
Madhya Pradesh, India

Technical Design
Identification of mixed load feeder
Electrical separation of agricultural load from the feeder
Combining domestic load of substation on domestic
feeder/s.
Backward augmentation of electrical infrastructure.
To achieve objective of the scheme, 6,262 numbers of
11kV feeders identified for physical separation.

Replicability

Peak load management in cost effective manner

At present in West Discom almost 100% feeder separation is complete which has resulted in
reduction of Evening Peak Demand in last Rabi season from 3,500 MW to 2,500 MW (a
decrease of 30%),whereas in Central and East Discoms without 100% effective feeder
separation the reduction in evening peak is observed from 2,800 MW to 2,700 MW (a
decrease of 5%) and from 2,300 MW to 2,200 MW (a decrease of 5%) respectively

Loss reduction : Gain in technical efficiency

Robustness of bifurcation design.

Social efficiency gain: Better health, education, Micro-enterprize, Availability of drinking water

Agricultural productivity gain: Increase in Paddy area by 34%, MP won National Productucity
award for fourth consecutive years

Capital cost servicing is almost tariff neutral
