Chingford Childrens Centre supports families of children from birth to five years
as well as pregnant parents in the Chingford area.
Our universal groups like Stay and Play are for all families and are free.
The groups are planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework
and support children to learn and develop through play.
Please contact us if you would like to know more about our services or the
partners we work with or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

Safeguarding Children
All staff regularly receive child protection training so that they know what to
do if they believe that a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm or neglect.
If you have any concerns about a child or adult Raymond Wood is the lead
safeguarding officer and can be contacted on 0208 496 1551.

at 10.00 here at the
Wyemead.
Parents and children
under 18 months old.

Babies
0-18months.

Tuesday
Free nursery places available interested? Why not?
1. Some parents have gone into further
education or training preparing
themselves for the working environment
and a lot of these courses are free or at
least discounted.
2. Some parents use this time for
volunteering, to gain experience in the
work market to develop their CVs.
3. Some parents find it invaluable to be able
to do some chores, shopping, cooking
etc. without having to also concentrate on
what their little ones are doing.
4. Some parents use it to go to the gym and
to keep fit, a great way to get rid of stress
from the body.
People on some form of benefits qualify
for a free nursery place for their 2 year
old child and whats more all they have to
do to find out if they qualify is to log on to
myearlylearning.co.uk enter their details and
straight away it lets you know if you qualify
or not.
Then if you qualify it gives you a number,
once you have that number you can take
it to most nurseries in Waltham Forest and
they will be able to offer you a place at their
nursery if they have space.
You do not give any money and the nursery
claim their fees from the council direct.
Now once that is all done you can then think
about what to do with the time you will have
on your hands, here are some of the things
parents are using their time for;

5. Some parents are using it for a good old

rest, being a parent is one of the hardest
jobs in the world.
Whatever your reason can you afford to miss
an opportunity like this, why not come in to
Chingford Childrens Centre and speak to us
about it we will be able to give you so many
reasons why it will be good for you and your
children.
If you want to have a taste of what it will
be like then come along to our Stay2Play
sessions especially set up for parents like
you. You will be able to experience a small
part of what your children will do, you can
get any questions answered and if there is a
need for further support this can be provided
as well.

Sleep experts say most adults need

between seven and nine hours
of sleep each night for optimum
performance and health. Not getting
enough sleep can result in health
problems such as obesity and high
blood pressure, negative mood and
behaviour, decreased productivity, and
safety issues in the home, on the job,
and on the road.

New born babies should sleep up to

18 hours a day and this reduces to about
12 hours for 5 year olds, (see the websites
for more details).
If you wake up in the middle of the night
and are not able to go back to sleep

relaxing imagery or thoughts may help you

get back to sleep, if you do not fall back
to sleep within 1520 minutes, you should
get out of bed, go to another room and
do something relaxing such as listening to
music or reading. Return to bed when you
feel sleepy. Avoid watching the clock or
television.
Here are some more opinions on sleeping
1. Having a new baby can result in over
700 hours of lost sleep for the parents
in the first year; over a months worth of
lost sleep.
2. Teenagers need as much sleep as small
children (about 10 hours)
3. It is said that 1 in 6 fatal road accidents
is caused by fatigue.
4. Its not uncommon for deaf people to
use sign language in their sleep
5. Sleeping less than 7 hours each night
reduces your life expectancy.
6. Lack of sleep can cause you to gain
weight at a rate of nearly 2lbs a week
or 0.9kg.
7. You burn more calories sleeping than
you do watching television

FATHERS GROUP

DADS + FATHERS + MALE CARERS + UNCLES + GRANDFATHERS

In a world of change there are few things that
remain the same and one thing that has stayed
the same is that children want their fathers.
What we have found is that week days are
okay for some fathers to attend groups with
their children however some still find it difficult
to attend during the week so we have decided
to put on a group on Saturday.

The group will run every Saturday. So come

along with your child, stay and play in a
welcoming and child friendly environment.
We have an experienced facilitator who will
be able to support and give advice when
needed; you will also be able to meet male
carers just like you.
Once a month we will be having the fathers
group at Pimp Hall Nature Reserve where we
will be having some out door fun.

So what are you waiting for,

come along and bring a friend.

Healthy Teeth Happy Smile

Sing to the tune of Im a little tea pot
and change morning for bedtime
for second verse.
Im a tube of tooth paste on the shelf,
Sad and lonely by myself,
When it comes to morning hear me
shout, Lift my lid and squeeze me out.
Taking care of your general health as
well as your teeth is the key to making
the most of your smile.
Brushing your teeth twice a day with
toothpaste, flossing them daily and
having regular check-ups with a dentist
can help keep your teeth healthy. But
diet, smoking and drinking alcohol also
have an effect on dental health.

Limiting the amount of sugar you and

your family eat and drink is important to
prevent tooth decay. Have sugary food
and drink only at mealtimes and dont
eat sugary snacks between meals. This
is especially important in young children
and babies.
It is also important you brush your teeth
in the right way. See the NHS choice
website for more details.

Grand parents
Calling all grand parents, we are putting on a stay and
play directed at you the Grand parents. We value your
contribution to the raising of the next generation and we
want you to have a place to come and meet other grand
parents doing just what you are doing.
Where: at the Wyemead Centre a place which has the latest
toys and equipment to give your grand child an amazing
experience and the ability to socialise with other children in
a safe and friendly environment.
We know that you are called upon to share the care of your
grand children, so we have on offer a place for you to take
them, you are not alone so dont be alone.

Why read to your child?

Water, water everywhere

it to keep functioning. Water keeps our joints
supple, controls our body temperature through
sweating and respiration, and helps to get rid
of waste when we go to the toilet.
Our bodies are constantly losing water, we lose
water when we sweat, go to the bathroom
even when we exhale.

We cant live on air and sunshine alone. The

human body needs food and water to survive.

There are many benefits to reading

to yourself and your child.
Reading to your children improves
communication with each other as
well as with other people. The more
you read the more comfortable your
child will be with words and this
helps with their speech.
The time you spend reading with
your child improves attachment
and bonding as you are spending
quality time with them and this will
be beneficial as they grow.
Reading with your child before bed
time aids a better quality of sleep
as it relaxes and calms their mind.

It has been shown that restful sleep

is vital to a childs development and
their wellbeing.
Reading stimulates your childs
imagination. The more you read
to your children the more they will
recognise words and sounds and
the more words they will use which
will improve their language.
Reading brings pleasure and
knowledge and books offer a ticket
to many worlds we might not ever
get to any other way, and reading
costs? What costs? sign up free
at your local library, they offer
fantastic services as well as books
to borrow. So next time you are
passing pop in and see.

A human can go for more than three weeks

without food but water is a different story.
The maximum time an individual can go
without water on average is a week depending
on the conditions.
At least 60% 70% of the adult body is made
of water and every living cell in the body needs

If that lost water is not replaced, it could have

damaging effects on the body; headaches etc
or more serious if prolonged.
The common recommendation is to drink
about 2 litres, or half a gallon a day for adults.
However, there are others who think that we
need to sip on water constantly throughout the
day even when were not thirsty.
But it is commonly agreed that a hydrated body
is a happy, happening, and healthy body, so
drink up.
