GENERAL GUIDELINE AND INSTRUCTIONS:
Assignment format (applicable to all assignments) :
1. 1.5 spacing, font size 12 (Times New Roman), and APA style of references.
2. The cover page of the assignments MUST include course name and code, name
and matric number of group members, assignment title, and date of submission.
Please note that all assignments have to be submitted during class on the stipulated
date.
All assignments should be done in group.
Late submission will NOT be graded.
ASSIGNMENT 1: CURRENT ISSUE IN MALAYSIA (20%)
1. Write a report on any current issue in Malaysia.
2. The format of the report is as follows:
a) Overview of the current issue
b) Analysis and assessment of the issue
c) Implications to HRM functions
d) Solutions or strategies to address the issue from the HRM perspective
e) Conclusion
f) References
3. Length of the report: 10 pages only (not including references and appendices).
4. Submission date: Wednesday 23rd March 2016

ASSIGNMENT 2: HRM PRACTICES IN SME (20%)

1. Prepare a report on HR practices in any ONE small medium enterprise (SME) in
Malaysia.
2. Determine and evaluate the HR practices adopted by the HR department of the
respective company.
3. Data should be gathered via secondary sources (e.g. annual reports or articles from
business magazines and/or newspaper) AND primary sources (e.g. interviews with
HR personnel or other appropriate methods).
4. Based on the theoretical aspects of HRM, provide suggestions on ways to enhance or
improve the respective HR practices in the company.
5. Group project format:
a) Introduction (a very brief explanation on the companys background)
b) The current practices of HR functions (limited to THREE functions only)
c) Suggestions to improve the respective practices based on theoretical support and
justifications
d) Conclusion
e) References
f) Appendices (e.g. annual reports, articles from business magazines or newspapers
as well as journal articles to support your justifications).
6. Length of the report: 20 pages only (not including references and appendices).
7. Submission date : Wednesday 18th May 2015

PRESENTATION OF PROGRESS REPORT

Each group has to present the progress of assignments on the date that respective
group members agreed and signed up for.
Time allocated for the presentation: 15 minutes per group
Some dos and donts during presentation:
Use given time wisely.
DO NOT READ the slides or any form of texts during presentation but a glance at
some notes is fine.
Do not clutter a slide with too much text, keep it simple and to the point.
Text should not be smaller than 24 point.
Use high contrast text and background, use plain background.
