Section 1 - Introduction
This information is for the following UK candidates and should be read in conjunction with all of the APC
guides (candidates, counsellors and pathway guides). It details when and how to enrol, information
regarding the costs involved, the refund policy and how to inform us of any change of circumstances.
 APC candidates doing structured training
 APC candidates doing preliminary review (no structured training)
 APC candidates not doing structured training or preliminary review

Section 2 Application Form


To enrol onto the APC please complete the enrolment application, which is available online. This can be
located by either completing the membership wizard, if you are unfamiliar with which qualification you are
eligible for; or if you know which assessment path you want to take, visit www.rics.org/join and click the
appropriate link.
Please make sure that you have registered/logged into your website account before you proceed with the
online application.
To complete your enrolment application you will need to ensure you have the following to hand:
 Accredited degree start date; course title and University name
 Copy of your qualification/degree certificate
 Employer details
 Counsellor details
Please note that if you have an RICS accredited degree you can enrol onto any APC pathway (e.g. having
a BSc in Building Surveying does not restrict you to the Building Surveying pathway).
Section 3 - How to apply candidates doing structured training
This information is for candidates that have an RICS accredited degree or are in the process of completing
one (part time or distance learning). You will be required to complete some structured training depending
on your experience.
You can back date your application by up to 1 month if your application is accompanied by a covering letter
from your employer or counsellor. This can be emailed to enrolmentsuk@rics.org after you have enrolled
online.

Review the information on the APC pages www.rics.org/apc regarding your chosen pathway
www.rics.org/pathwayguides
Download the relevant APC templates www.rics.org/apctemplates to record your experience against
relevant competencies.
Obtain guidance/support from employer and counsellor (a professional member MRICS or FRICS).
If your employer/counsellor requires additional support they can contact an RICS Training Adviser
www.rics.org/candidatesupport
Obtain sign off of the competencies achieved, by a professional member (as per counsellor role), in
order to be able to use this experience towards the minimum of 400 days/2 years APC requirement.
Following graduation- enrol onto APC when employed and pay the full APC application fee
(502) plus current years subscription as detailed on the application form.

Include letter from your counsellor confirming when your work placement started and finished and
that you were working towards APC requirements.
Complete a minimum of 1 year structured training, post-graduation of RICS accredited degree
(more may be required depending on when you started and finished your work placement).

After recording a minimum 23 months APC requirement your counsellor will decide when you are ready to
apply for final assessment (in accordance with the final assessment application and submission dates).
Enrolment deadline dates
There are specific enrolment dates that will affect when you will potentially be able to sit final assessment.
The final assessment dates are split into two sessions; Session 1 (Spring) and Session 2 (Autumn).
Your enrolment can be back dated by up to one month if you include evidence of your employment
commencement date (e.g. copy of your contact, evidence from employer).

Section 4 How to apply candidates doing preliminary review (no structured training)
This information is for APC candidates that have a degree + 5 years experience of which 12 months must
be post-graduation or membership of relevant professional body + 5 years experience of which 12 months
must be post-graduation
Enrolment start dates
You can enrol onto the APC at any time however it is important to note that there are specific dates to
submit your preliminary review by in order to potentially sit final assessment six months later. See below
the table overleaf:

As well as having your submissions reviewed, the fee paid also includes an online workshop, which will
advise you how to proceed through the process.
In addition you will have access to a recorded final assessment workshop.
An invitation and arrangements for these online workshops will be sent upon enrolment.

Section 5 How to apply candidates not doing structured training or preliminary review
If you have an RICS accredited degree + 10 years experience then you are not required to complete any
structured training or submit for preliminary review.

Enrolment start dates


You can enrol at any time.
You will be required to meet the required level of competency and have completed 48 hours of CPD before
applying for final assessment. Enrolment and final assessment are two separate processes.

Section 6 Change in circumstances
Please contact RICS apc@rics.org as soon as possible if:

You change employer - please give full details of new employer and when you started work
there.
You change your counsellor please give the full name and RICS membership number of
your new counsellor.
You want to change your pathway please ensure that you have discussed this with your
counsellor and employer before contacting RICS.

Section 7 Fee & payment information


Please note the important information below which is applicable to all enrolment applications.
Fees and subscriptions are to be paid in full. They are not paid pro-rata.
RICS membership subscription is due every year on 01 January.
When enrolment takes place before 1 October you will pay the current years subscription in full and you
will then be required to pay the following years subscription when this becomes due, on 1st January.
When enrolment takes place after 1 October, your subscription fee will cover the period from October to
December of the current year and all of the following year.
All amounts payable in connection with the APC are exempt of VAT. If VAT becomes applicable at any
time, then RICS reserves the right to charge applicants VAT.
Following election to professional membership, you will be required to pay full election fees to include
professional member subscription at the current rate, plus upgrade fee (131).
How to pay
Cheque, made payable to RICS.
Credit card. Please indicate this on the application form and we will call you to take payment when
processing your application. Please do not send in your card details.
Those who have been notified by their employer that they will be included on their employers corporate
payment scheme must still provide the full APC fees and subscription at enrolment. The subscription for
the following year will be collect on the corporate scheme, if you are to be included.
Refunds
All fees are non-refundable unless you withdraw your application within a cooling off period of 14 days (10
working days) from the date your enrolment is processed by RICS. If you decide to withdraw your
application please email apc@rics.org
