Learn KP System in 5 Minutes

There are many systems in astrology like parashari, jaimini, tajik, western, kp astrology, lal kitab
etc. and among these KP System or Krishnamurti Paddhati is considered one of the most easy to
apply and most accurate system of present time. When will one get married? When will one get
job? When it will rain today? When will power return back? these are some most important
questions of daily life and KP System is an excellent system to answer such questions. If
somebody tells you that you will get married on so an so date. Or if somebody tells you that your
child who has gone to school will return precisely on x hour y min and z seconds, you will be
surpized. This is the beauty of KP System and after 5 mins you will be able to do it yourself.
People will charge thousands of rupees to tell this to you and still they will tell you only
modified and corrupted version. They will not tell you the true version. I am telling you simple,
non-corrupted, and precise version of KP System in the language you can understand. I am
happy that I am able to bring this episode live with the help of AstroSage TV. So let's begin.
KP System is very easy, probably easiest among the systems that I named earlier. Very easy. It
has only 5 principles and once you understood these five principles, you can predict almost all
events of your life. Here are those five rules Rule No. 1. Other than its own results, a planet also gives the results of its nakshatra lord.
Rule No. 2. 12th house from any house negates the results of that house.
Rule No. 3. Results are decided by not a single house but house group
Rule No. 4. Sub Lord of a planet qualify the results of the planet. Without planet's sub lord
permits, planet will not be able to give results.
Rule No. 5. Cuspal sub lord tells you whether the event is promised or not.
These are the five rules and with these rule you learnt KP System. You are done. Go back , now
you know KP System. You will say that's it? Will I be able to predict marriage and job etc. with
these principles. My answer is Yes and Yes, you can. You will not only able to predict marriage
and job but all events - major or minor. Now let me explain each principle with some examples. I
am taking a divorce case as an example. This is a chart of a native born on 10.October.1976, 2:30
AM, in Calcultta

Let us start with Rule 5 first. What is that rule? Rule is "cuspal sub lord tells whether the event is
promised or not". In astrology, Seventh house is the parimary house for marriage. You probably
already know it. In our example chart, Seventh Cuspal Sub Lord is Saturn situated in the 12th
house of isolation and separation. Saturn owns 6th house which house of marriage seperation and
divorce.
Why? Why is the 6th house, a house for divorce and seperation? The answer lies in the rule
second. Remember that - "12th house from any house negates the results of that house. " 7th
house is the house of marriage, so 12th from the 7th house i.e. 6th house is the house of
seperation, house of divorce. Second rule is very important for predictive purpose so one must
always remember it. Coming back to the question of promise, now it is clear that the chart shows
promise of divorce because cuspal sub lord of 7th house owns 6th house and occupies 12th
house.
You would ask that you are talking about divorce, what about the promise of marriage? Was
marriage promised in this chart at all? How she got married if the chart promises divorce? Now
the rule 1. comes into picture. What was the rule no. 1.? "a planet, other than its own results,
gives results of its nakshatra lord". Planet and Planet's nakshatra lord's results are collectively
called signification of the planet in KP astrology. So when we have to see promise of marriage,
we have to see not only placement of Cuspal Sub Lord of 7th house, we also need to see
nakshatra lord of the planet.
In our example chart, Saturn is situated in Mercury's Naksahtra. Mercury owns 2nd house of
family and 11th house of fulfilment of desire. So, as 7th cuspal sub lord is situated in the

nakshatra of Mercury, it promises marriage. Due to Saturn's connection with 6,12, chart shows
divorce and due to Saturn's connection with 2,11, chart shows marriage. Both the promises are
there. I hope now you understand how to predict what events are promised in a chart.
Another important question in life is of 'when'. Let's see how to find out when was the native got
married? Listen carefully, because once you understand it, you will be able to predict timing of
all major events of your life like job, marriage, disease etc. To answer this question of marriage
timing, we need to remember rule no. 3 which says "results are decided by not a single house but
a group of houses". For example, marriage happens when one gets dasa of planet connected with
the houses 7th which is the house of marriage, 2nd which is the house of family and 11th which
is the house of fulfilment of desire. So unlike classical approach, where 7th house is given more
prominence, in KP house group is given importance. For marriage house group is group of 2nd,
7th and 11th houses. The list of house groups for various events of life is given on KP astrology
wiki (http://kpastrology.astrosage.com) and you can use for predicting other events of life.
Coming back to the marriage, Marriage happened in June 2002 when the mahadasa of Sun and
Antardasa of Mercury was running. Sun is situated in 2nd house which is one of the houses in
the house grouping 2,7,11 for marriage. Mercury owns 2nd and 11th house, two houses in the
house grouping and hence Mercury is also capable of giving marriage. No wonder person got
married in Sun mahadasa and Mercury antardasa.
Before I close, I want to remind that KP System follows calculations which are slightly different
than traditional astrology. For example, KP uses Western style of house division and KP
Ayanamsa. So for all calculations, you can use www.AstroSage.com, www.MyKundali.com
which gives calcualations according to KP.

Birth Time Rectification

Birth Time Rectification (BTR) using Ruling Planets (RP) method

Note the Ruling Planets at the time of judgment (the time when astrologer has taken
up, or commenced, the rectification of birth chart). Ruling planets are 1. Day lord (DL)
2. Moon Sign lord (MSL)
3. Moon Nakshatra lord (MNL)
4. Ascendant Sign lord (ASL)
5. Ascendant Nakshatra lord (ANL)

These five ruling planets should be among Ascendant Sign Lord, Ascendant
Nakshatra Lord and Ascendant Sub lord in the birth chart of the native. If the Ruling
Planets at the time of judgment are not matching with the Ascendant Sign Lord,
Ascendant Nakshatra Lord, and Ascendant Sub lord in native's birth chart, it means
the birth time provided to the astrologer is not correct and requires rectification.

The Day Lord is taken as per Hindu day system which starts from Sunrise and ends
on the next sunrise. It is NOT calculated from 12 OClock Midnight to next 12
OClock midnight. For example if somebody born on February 11, 2011 at 4:00 AM
at Agra, UP, INDIA, it will be Thursday and NOT Friday because 4:00 AM is before
sunrise on February 11, 2011.

If Rahu or Ketu are acting as an agent to any of the ruling planets at the time of
judgment, those will also be included as ruling planet. For example, if any node
(Rahu or Ketu) is in conjunction or receiving aspect from any of the ruling planets, or
if it occupies the sign owned by the ruling planet, the node should be included in list
of the ruling planets.

In case we need less ruling planets, ruling planets that are in the star or sub of
retrograde planets, can be omitted.

Among the ruling planets, Ascendant Nakshatra Lord, Ascendant Sign lord, Moon's
Nakshatra Lord, Moon's Sign lord and the Day Lord are taken in order of strength i.e.
Ascendant Nakshatra Lord is the most powerful ruling planet and Day lord is the

least powerful. This strength is useful when we have to select few among all the
ruling planets.

Differences in Readers

Selection of Fruitful Significators

In KP Reader III and Original volume1965, the occupant of a house need not always
be stronger than the owner.
The owner is strong when a) occupant is in enemy's sign or neecha
b) lord of the sign is exalted
c) lord of the sign is conjoined with a planet in it's own sign
If owner is strong, the ranking of significator will vary as below. Most of the KP astrologers are
not following this important KP rule.

House Grouping

Not single but multiple houses play role in any event of life. In KP terminology, these
groups of houses for the event is called "House Group". This is also referred as Formula by
some KP astrologers. In the table below we need to combine primary houses and supporting
houses to come up with the house grouping for the event. For example, event "Good health"
has 1,11 as house group. Event "Proneness of disease" has house group 1, 6, 8, 12.

There are two uses of the House Grouping table below -

1. Knowing whether the event is promised in one's chart or not

If the cuspal sub lord of primary house signifies primary and supporting houses, the
event is promised. Please read "Chapter 2: Fundamental Principles" to get better
understanding.

2. When the event will happen

Events happens when the planet-lords of current dasa (dasa lord, antardasa lord,
pratyantardasa lord, sookshma lord etc.) signifies house group. For example, one
has "Good health" when one passes through dasa of the planets signifies houses
1,11. Similarly, "Proneness to disease" happens when one passes through dasa of
the planets signifies 1,6,8,12. Again, please read "Chapter 2: Fundamental Principles" to
get better understanding.

What is "Punarphoo"?
Connection between Saturn and Moon is known as Punarphoo or Punarphoo Dosha.
Shri K. S. Krishnamurti dealt Punarphoo mainly from marriage perspective and
talked about Punarphoo in sixth reader (Marriage, Married Live and Children). Here
is excerpt from the Sixth Reader

Whenever Saturn has got any connection what-so-even with Moon, there
will be some obstacle or impediment, not only during negotiation but also
at the time of fixation and even at the time of celebration of the marriage.
This connection between Moon and Saturn causes delay, though ultimately
both of them do much more good with a better partner.

According to him headache, fear and anxiety are some of the results of Punarphoo.
Though the results of Punarphoo are not very clearly defined in sixth reader, some
of the possibilities due to Punarphoo are (Taken from:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/k_p_system/message/7673)

Broken engagement
Postphonement of marriage date, after it is fixed

The spouse not being the first choice

Delay while travelling to the Marriage place etc.

Meaning of 'connection' was not very clearly defined in sixth reader. Though the
following has been mentioned (taken from: Sixth reader, Page #78, Sixth Edition June 1993) -

1. Saturn in the star of the Moon and sub of Saturn

2. Moon is in the star of Saturn and in sub of Moon
3. Saturn in the houses - 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10
Later KP followers defined connection between Saturn and Moon more precisely as
follows - (taken from the book "PUNARPHOO: Saturn & Moon" - by K. Subramaniam)
1. Any of these connections between Saturn and Moon will result in Punarphoo
1. Saturn in the star of the Moon and his own sub,
2. or Moon is in the star of Saturn and in her own sub,
3. or if Moon and Saturn are in the same sign.
2. The condition pertains also if the Moon is in the star of Saturn and in the sub
of the Moon,
3. or if the Moon is the 3rd or 10th sign from Saturn, to Saturn's 3rd and 10th
aspect from the Moon.
Some KP astrologers prefer much simpler definition, e.g. Punarphoo is the phenomenon of "SAT and MOON being connected to each
other .in any way
- Anant Raichur (Taken
from: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/k_p_system/message/6097)
Whereas, some give more importance to special aspects of Saturn and the houses
involved

Punarphoo dosha, is mainly caused by the evil aspect of Sat over the Moon,
by his powerful IIIrd and Xth aspect, mainly, and his other aspects on the
Moon are secondary.
Punarphoo will cause some obstacles, not only during negotiations for
marriage but ALSO at the time of celebration of the marriage. It can upset
and change the date set for the marriage.
Further, if Saturn is deposited in the constellation of Moon and sub of Sat and
if Moon is deposited in the I, III, V, VII, and X, then such difficulties arise

- L. Y. Rao (Taken from: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/k_p_system/message/6097)

Later some KP astrologers also expended definition of Punarphoo for other aspect of
life like profession etc. and interpreted it for delay and obstacle in those areas.
Punarphoo is a horary chart is also interpreted by some KP astrologer as delay in
getting results related to the the question under consideration

Here is what Mr Vaikari Ramamurthy has written about the effects of Punarphoo
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/k_p_system/message/20724)
1. Our beloved guruji in his readers mentioned about this "Punarphoo" only in
some marriage matters and he has not elaborated this (any other) aspect of
Sat-Moon combination.
2. I had lot of experience of this Sat-Moon combination, i.e. Punarphoo dosha
not only in marriage aspect, but each and every aspect of a man's life. We
can call it is a Dosha of this Moon-Sat combination like mars dosha and other
malefic doshas.
3. I have covered almost all the cases such as marriage, progeny, love affairs,
intercaste marriage, delays profession, denial of marriage, betrothal,
marriage agreements, mismatched marriage and also some miserable life of
the native due to the presence of this Sat-Moon combination, i.e. Punarphoo
Some astrologers considered Punarphoo impacts aspects of life signified by the
houses with which Saturn and Moon are connected. For example, if the Saturn and
Moon are connected with 10th house, it will create delay and impediments in
profession and career (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/k_p_system/message/8691)

The Cancellation of "Punarphoo"

(Taken from: "Cancellation of Punarphoo" by the late Pt. K.R. Kar in the "K.P. &
Astrology" - 1996 Annual issue (pages 69-72) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/k_p_system/message/8690)

Generally speaking, connection of Sun with the Punarphoo causing planets (Saturn
and Moon) results in cancellation of Punarphoo. Precisely speaking, cancellation
takes place due to following conditions 1. Sat or Moon or both in association with Sun in one sign (could involve
even two houses)
2. Sat or Moon in the star of Sun
3. Sun is in a star, lord of which is near either Moon or Saturn.
4. Sun is in the star of either Moon or Sat
5. Any planet near the Moon or Saturn, but is posited in the star of Sun
6. Sat or Moon is in the sub-sub of Sun

Definition of Mars Dosha

"Mars dosha is caused by Mars being 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 house from Lagna
or Moon or Venus."

Cancellation of Mars Dosha

Cancellation will happen, if
1. Mars is in his own signs - Aries or Scorpio
2. Mars in Venus signs (Taurus or Libra) in 4th or 7th house
3. Mars in Mercury signs (Gemini or Virgo) in 2nd house
4. Mars in the house owned by Sun, Moon, or Saturn
5. Mars in 8th house and house occupied by Mars is owned by Jupiter

Mars Dosha Matching

1. If, in the bride's chart, there is Mars dosha; select such a bridegroom who
also has more or less similar Mars Dosha
2. If there is Mars dosha with cancellation in the bride's chart, there is Mars
dosha; select such a bridegroom who also has Mars Dosha with cancellation
3. If there is no dosha at all in the bride's chart and it is termed as Sudha

Jathakam, match it with one which has no dosha at all

Please note that the same principles are applicable to bride as well as bridegroom
match. Please make necessary adjustments.
Other Related Doshas
The cause difference of opinion, disagreement, dispute, divorce etc. among couple
is not left to Mars alone, any planet can cause such undesirable effect provided they
happen to be deposited in such a positions e.g. 1. The sublord of that planet is significator of 6 or 10 or 12.
2. If the same sublord also signifies 2 or 7 or 11, the problem will be there only
for a short period of time.
3. The sublord of a planet is Mars and Mars is significator of 6 or 10 or 12, there
will be violence and separation
4. The sublord of a planet is Saturn, silence and remain dumb-sit and strike
(All above taken from: KP IV reader, Page 68, Sixth edition - June 1993)

Four Step Theory

THIS sets down the essential rules given by Mr. Sunil Gondhalekar in his Lessons,
written in the K.P.Style. The Basic principle of KP is that A Planet gives the results
indicated by its Star Lord and Sub Lord.
THE FOUR STEPS TO DETERMINE HOUSES SIGNIFIED BY ANY PLANET ARE:
1.
2.
3.
4.

The
The
The
The

Planet itself (House residence, Houses Owned)

Star Lord of the Planet: (Same house resident, houses owned)
SUB LORD of the Planet:
Star Lord of this sub lord:

For prediction, we have to consider that all houses, are signified by the Planet, some
Primarily, and some Secondarily

First Step

THE 1ST STEP in the 4 step Theory is: A Planet becomes the Significator of the
HOUSE where it resides, and of the House/Houses It OWNS
This rule is modified depending on wether there are other planets in the STARS of
this Planet, and wether the Houses owned are Empty or have some other planets in
them. (Hers,Neptune,Pluto,For are not considered for this conditions.
IF THERE ARE NO PLANETS IN THE STARS OF THE PLANET,(the planet is not the Star
Lord of any other planet) THEN it becomes THE PRINCIPAL Significator of the House
where it Resides. Otherwise, it becomes a secondary Significator of the House
where it resides.
If a PLANET Is Primary significator of Residence, then it becomes the Principal of the
houses owned ONLY IF THAT HOUSE IS EMPTY, otherwise it is the secondary
significator of the house owned
If the Planet is itself a SECONDARY significator of House of RESIDENCE then it will be
also Secondary Significator of Houses owned EVEN IT EMPTY.
IF A PLANET IS IN ITS OWN STAR, then it Automatically becomes the Primary
significatro of the House of residence (even if there other planets in its stars). It
becomes pricipal significator of houses it owns, if empty

Second Step
SECOND STEP: The Star LORD OF THE PLANET UNDER CONSIDERATION
In this step, the STAR LORD automatically Becomes the Principal Significator of the
House of Residence, and Of the Houses owned, if Empty.
FOR RAHU AND KETU same rules apply. Rahu/Ketu get addittionl representation as
Representative of the Lord of house where they Reside

Third Step
THIRD STEP: The sub Lord of the Planet:
The houses signified are determined as per 1st step only

Fourth Step
Fourth step: The Star Lord of Sub Lord
The houses are found applyin the same rules as Second Step
Another point is to consider Signifcators by conjunction(3.33 deg) between planets,
as also signifed by the planet considered. The conjoined planet acts as an agent of

the planet to which it is conjoined.

Practical Application
Child birth: When?
Rule: The 5th (as qurrent is lady) Sub Lord must be the Primary significator of
2nd/5th/or 11th. Only if this is positive then we fix the time. 5th sub Lord is Mercury:
The houses signified by this Planet are found to be
Mer:
8P,9,6P (Mer in 8th:Noplanets in Mer Stars: 9,not empty.6th empty)
Star Lo: Ven: 8P,10,5 (Star Lord hence P: Houses owned not empty no Not P)
SUB : Mars :10P,11,4
StL of SUB :Sat: 9P,2eP,1eP
The 5th Sub Lord has become the Principal Significator of 2nd in the fourth step:
THERFORE we conclude that lady will have children:
To fix time, we must now test the Dasa,Bhukti,& Antara Lords. Moon Dasa balance 6
months,28 days. We cannot consider this as birth of a child is not possible in 6/7
months. So consider next MARS dasa
Check the houses signified by Dasa Lord Mars:(all 4 steps to be seen)
1st step Mars: 10P,11,4
2nd
Sat : 9P,1P,2P
3rd
Ven : 8P,10,5
4th
Ven : 8P,10,5
Since Mars is Primary Sig of 2nd House, this can be selected.
IMPORTANT: IN SELECTING THE DASA/BHUKTI/ANTARA , we MUST see that all the
Houses 2,5,11 are signified :
Since we have selected Mars Dasa, which signifies 2 primarily, the Bhukti Lord must
primarily signify 5 or 11 :Antara should signify the remaining
Now in Mars Dasa, we have to ignore Mars Bhukti, as only 2nd house is signified:
Next RAHU :He is PS of 7 and 8: Though he is SS of 5th we pass on
NEXT JUPITER: He is PS of 11,12,10,4,8
Since the 11th is found in the pricipal significators, We SELECT THAT AS BHUKTI:
Next is Antara: The Antara Lord has to be the PS of the remaining 5th house: When
looking thru other Planets, we get MOON as Primarily signifinficator.
5th in the 1st itself. So we select this.
The period thus is 3/5/1987 to 31/5/1987. The birth took place in June 87.
The Ayanamsa used was later corrected. This adds 13 days to the Dasa endins etc.
So the timimg is fairly correct.

In the present case 7th cusp Sub lord is Venus. Now see his significance He
signigies 7th Principally at Step 4. The secondary signification is not considered.
SO THE NATIVE WILL MARRY .
NEXT QUESTION WHEN ?
When the question was asked Ven Dasa running for one month only.
Next Dasa of SUN is selected:

Sun in 1st step is Principal significator of 11th and 7th.

So Sun Dasa and Sun Bhukti is selected.
NOW WE HAVE TO GET THE 3RD SIGNIFICANCE FOR HOUSE 2.
An examination of the Planets and Houses signified shows that only SAT principally
signifies the 2nd. So the marriage is predicted to take place in SUN DASA: SUN
BHUKTI: SAT ANTARA;
This period is 5/12/2000 to 22/12/2000. But during this period Saturn is
RETROGRADE. So this was not selected. Take MOON Bhukti: Moon is Principal sig of
7th, Sun of 11th
Take Sat antara for 2nd, thus complete the chain.
This period comes 19/4/2001 to 18/5/2001. This period was predicted for Marriage.
THE MARRIAGE WAS CELEBRATED ON 18/4/2001.
This is from Nakshtra Dena of Divali 2001.
