Radner was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on October 21, 1986 and began
chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
She was declared to be in remission in September 1988, but learned in
December that the cancer had returned.
Radner passed away on May 20, 1989.
Her late husband, actor and comedian Gene Wilder, established the Gilda
Radner Hereditary Center Program at Cedars-Sinai.
Radners passing raised awareness about early detection of ovarian cancer
and the connection to familial epidemiology.
In 1991, Gildas Club was founded by Gene Wilder and Joanna Bull (Radners
cancer psychotherapist). Gildas Club is a network of people living with
cancer and their friends and families who meet to learn how to live with
cancer.
Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making
the best of it, without knowing whats going to happen next.
