Dear Parishioners,
Jesus said: Love one another as I have loved you. This
invitation or command sums up all that Jesus did and everything
he asks us to do as his followers. Jesus didnt just talk about loving
us. He gave his life for love of us. Here is a clear example of Gods
love for us and how we should return that love by loving others and putting into practice in
our lives. This is the direct message in todays Gospel.
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles; we see Paul and Barnabas retracting
their steps back to Antioch. They were encouraging the small communities they had founded
on their outward journey.
The Book of Revelation (Apocalypse) gives a vision of a new heaven and a new earth.
This new order of things is brought about by the life, suffering, death and resurrection of
Jesus. This is what we try to celebrate anew in this Easter Season.
The best way we can celebrate is by taking up the constant challenge of the new
commandment, Love God and love your neighbour.
It is so easy to talk about loving others but to put it into practice demands sacrifice,
understanding, patience, wisdom, perseverance and the many other qualities needed to build
up Gods kingdom of Justice, Love and peace.
Visit to Strasbourg: It was a challenge and a privilege to be part of the Delegation
visiting Strasbourg this past week. Strasbourg houses the Council of Europe with 47 member
states, including Turkey, Switzerland, Russia, etc. (While Brussels has the European
Parliament with 28 member states). This is why Strasbourg is a key place for negotiating in
the conflict between the Turkish Government and the Kurdish people.
Our aim was to follow on from the Delegations visit to Istanbul some weeks ago. There
we asked the Ministry of Justice if the peace talks could be resumed; that the Kurdish leader,
Abdullah Ocalan, be part of the process of peace and this would automatically presume his
release from prison after 17 years. Since our requests in Istanbul were not successful, hence
the appeal to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. We spoke to members of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE); political groups; country
representatives and different committees.
We await a response from the various departments of the Council whom we spoke to.
A press release is be available today.
Thank you for your prayers and support.
