The novel that I have learnt is Catch Us If You Can by Catherine MacPhail.

The main characters, Rory and Granda, clearly show that love is important in a
family. They have demonstrated that love can overcome the challenges in life.
The love between Rory and Granda is a heart warming story of love. They are
successful in facing many obstacles along their journey because of love. Their
love is deep and pure. Rory and Granda will do anything to care of each other
and make one another happy.
Love is important in a family is shown between a grandparent and a
grandchild. Rory lives with his grandfather whom he calls, Granda. Granda loves
Rory. To him, Rory is his son. Rory and Granda share an amazing family love for
each other. Granda has been taking care of Rory ever since Rorys mother
passed away and his father walked out of their life. Granda sees to the needs of
Rory in schooling and goes to see the class teacher whenever being called such
as Parents Night. Rory also loves his grandfather. Rory will do anything to care
for Granda and make him happy. Because of this love, they are willing to run
away in order not to be separated. They shun the safety of the childrens home,
Castle Street and old folks home, Rachnadar.
Next, Rory does not get love from his father, Jeff. Rory hopes that his
father who has abandoned the family and whom he has not seen for years would
reach out and help. Because there was no love between the father and the son,
Jeff abandoned his son with his father. However, many caring people help the
young boy and his ailing grandfather throughout the obstacles during the Great
Escape. The story ends on a happy note when Rorys dad gets in touch with him
due to the publicity.
Last but not least, Tyrones family too portrays family love. They are loving
and close-knit family. The head of the family is Sammy, he is a good provider.
Ruby sees to the familys everyday needs. Tyrone tells Rory that he will never
part from his parents. It is his fear too that one day he will be taken away from
them by the authorities. Rory will never allow this to happen.
As a conclusion, family love is important and it is clearly shown in this
novel. The main character, Rory and Granda have a true love in a family and
they have succeeded in facing all obstacles along the journey because of love
towards each other. It is also shown by Tyrone and his family, and there is no love
between Rory and his father, Jeff. It is true that love does not count and a
friend in need is a friend indeed . Family relationship should be nurtured through
love and not taken for granted as familys happiness and stability depends on
this positive attitude.
