How to Interpret Your Scores

This report gives you a numerical score for each of the 7 Habits and related concepts, as well
as the individual questions that make up that category. It also gives you a score for the Time
Matrix, which shows you how well you use your time.
The question scores are derived by attaching a point value to each of the options on the
ratings scale as follows:
Scale Rating

perfect score would be 100 points.
The Benchmark score is the average score of a representative sample of past program
participants. They are provided as a reference point in evaluating your data.

The diagram above represents the relative weighting of time and energy you place in each of
the four quadrants of the Time Matrix. This model is part of Habit 3: Put First Things First. The
overall goal is to spend most of your time in Quadrants I and II, with as much time as possible in
Quadrant II.
The Time Matrix consists of four quadrants, each defined by its relationship to urgency and
importance.
What to Do With This Report
To get the most value out of this report, you should:
Importance. This identifies activities that contribute to your highest priorities. Your
priorities reflect your personal values and move you forward in areas you care about.
Urgency. This identifies activities that are pressing or time-sensitive which must be acted
upon right now.
Urgent things can be important, and vice versa. However, we often assume something is
important simply because it is urgent. Problems arise when urgency replaces importance as the
dominant factor in our lives.
The higher your score in Quadrant II, the greater your ability to identify, focus on, and achieve
your highest priorities. Quadrant II is the key to life balance, productivity, quality of life, and
overall effectiveness.
The "Benchmark" score for the quadrants is the average score of a representative sample of
past FranklinCovey program participants. They are provided as a reference point in evaluating
your data.

PRE-ASSESSMENT

Adding Dimension to Your Data

Some of the most insightful data about your effectiveness as an associate can come from the
people you work with. While this is a self-assessment, you can follow one or both of the
suggestions below to add another dimension to your data.
Idea #1Consider what others might say if they were asked these questions about
you.
Go through the report, but score the questions as you think others would answer them. For
example
Rather than reading the question this way:
When listening, I try to see things from the other persons point of view, not
just my own.
Read it this way:
Other people would say that when listening, I try to see things from the
other persons point of view, not just my own.
Mark the place on the report where you think others would rate you. You might find it helpful to
think of a particular person you work with and try to answer the question from his or her point of
view. You could also consider what the average response would be if you asked your whole
team.
As you compare your answers, consider if there is a gap. If there is an area of concern, bring
this insight into your action planning.
Urgent things can be important, and vice versa. However, we often assume something is
important simply because it is urgent. Problems arise when urgency replaces importance as the
dominant factor in our lives.
Idea #2Involve a partner.
If you have a trusted associate, coach, or friendsomeone you can count on to give honest
feedbackyou may want to show this person your report and ask if he or she agrees with how
you scored yourself. If this person would give you different scores, ask why. Take notes. Use
this information in your action planning.
