Shock, scandal, shame and sorrow YEAR C

The media has given widespread coverage in recent weeks to sacerdotus@googlemail.com
the evil of the abuse of children perpetrated by a number of Website:
Catholic priests and others in various parts of the world. It is www.saintfelix.org.uk
not surprising that this scandal has been met by a sense of
shock and outrage, as well as deep shame and sorrow. Noth-
ing can excuse such behaviour, wherever it takes place.
WEEKEND MASS TIMES
There have clearly been seriously mistaken decisions by some
bishops and other authorities, some reaching back many 6pm: ST FELIX
decades. Although it needs to be stressed that only a small ( George Friel+ )
percentage of priests have ever been involved, and we
should not allow the vast majority of dedicated and faithful 9am: ST FELIX
priests to be tainted by the sins of their brethren, it still ( Bridie Doogue+ )
needs to be said that just one such act of abuse is one too
many, and like any family we should all share the sense of 10.30am: CONVENT

shame and sorrow that so many understandably feel at this
time. 11.30am: ST CECILIA’S Monday—Saturday

which can be found in full at: http://www.rcdow.org.uk/ AT THE CONVENT

LAST TWO WEEKS Wednesday: Douglas Squirrell+
'In the last forty years, less than half of 1% of Catholic Thursday: Thanksgiving
priests in England and Wales (0.4%) have had allegations of OFFERTORY Joanna & Chris Strickland
child abuse made against them. Fewer have been found £807.37 & 493.29
guilty. Do not misunderstand me. One is too many. One bro- AT ST FELIX
ken child is a tragedy and a disgrace. One case alone is CAFOD FRIDAY
enough to justify anger and outrage. The work of safeguard- £197.04 & 126.80 12 noon
ing, needed within any organisation and within our society as ( John King Snr+ )
a whole, is demanding but absolutely necessary. The Catholic MANY THANKS
