Dear Parents and Carers
Visit to the Victorian classroom at Bradford Industrial Museum
This term Class 4 are learning about the history of education and law and order in
Bradford. To support this learning, we have arranged a visit to the Industrial Museums
Victorian classroom on Friday 5th February 2016.
The class will depart from school walking to the museum at 9:40am and arrive back
at school by 12:15pm. Lunch arrangements will be as normal.
The authentically recreated schoolroom aims to recapture the surroundings in which
Bradford children did their lessons between 1870 and 1902. Pupils will explore life in
Victorian Bradford and the significance of the mill industry before experiencing
Victorian schooling for themselves, including copywriting with dip-pens, doing sums on
slates, singing songs and reciting poetry.
The cost of the visit is 3.90 per pupil. We would kindly ask for a voluntary
contribution of 2.00 from you towards this cost. If we do not receive enough
contributions, it is possible that the visit will have to be cancelled.
To make the experience more authentic, it would be fantastic if the children could wear
to school on the day something from this list:
Girls simple Victorian clothing

Boys simple Victorian clothing

Dark boots or shoes

Dark shoes or boots
Dark skirt or dress (as long as possible)
Dark school trousers
Dark knee-high socks or tights
Long dark socks over the top
of your trousers
Plain white shirt
Dark round-neck jersey or a dark
waistcoat
Normal school shoes will be fine. If you are unable to find anything from this list, the
children will be asked to leave their school jumper at school as their school shirt will be
fine.
This is an exciting opportunity for some real hands-on learning. I look forward to
sharing the photographs of our visit with you.
Please see the attached permission slip and return this to school as soon as
possible.
