Herbaldistillate
Herbaldistillatesareaqueousproductsofdistillation.Theyare
colloidal suspensions (hydrosol) of essential oils as well as
watersoluble components obtained by steam distillation or
hydro distillation from plants/herbs. These herbal distillates
have uses as flavorings, medicine and in skin care. Herbal
distillates go by many other names including floral water,
hydrosol,hydrolate,herbalwaterandessentialwater.
Herbaldistillatesareproducedinthesameorsimilarmanneras
essentialoils.However,theessentialoilwillfloattothetopof
the distillate where it is removed, leaving behind the watery
distillate. For this reason perhaps the term essential water is
more descript. In the past, these essential waters were often
considered a byproduct of distillation, but now are considered
animportantcoproduct.
The science of distillation is based on the fact that different
substances vaporize at different temperatures. Unlike other
extraction techniques based on solubility of a compound in
either water or oil, distillation will separate components
regardless of their solubility. The distillate will contain
compounds that vaporize at or below the temperature of
distillation.Theactualchemicalcomponentsofdistillateshave

Herbal waters contain diluted essential oils. Besides aromatic
chemicals,thesedistillatesalsocontainmanymoreoftheplant

Cosmetics and toiletries makers are finding many uses for
herbal distillates. A pH between 56 makes them suitable for
use as facial toners. They can be used alone as room sprays.

MonsantoSaysPanelToReviewWHO
FindingOnCancerLinkToHerbicide
July 14 (Reuters) Monsanto Co, whose Roundup product is
one of the world's most widely used herbicides, said on
Tuesday it has arranged for an outside scientific review of a
World Health Organization finding that the weed killer's key
ingredient probably causes cancer. The WHO's International
Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) said in March that it
had concluded that the ingredient, called glyphosate, was
probably carcinogenic after reviewing a range of scientific
literature. Monsanto reacted to the finding by demanding a
retraction, labeling the findings by a team of international
cancerscientistsas"junkscience."

DrumCastle
Drum Castle is a castle near Drumoak in Aberdeenshire,
Scotland. For centuries it was the seat of the chief of Clan
Irvine. The placename Drum is derived from Gaelic druim,
'ridge'.
The original 13thcentury tower of Drum Castle has been
suggested as the work of medieval architect Richard
Cementarius,whobuilttheBridgeofDoninOldAberdeen. It
is believed to be one of the three oldest tower houses in
Scotland (and notably unaltered). A large wing was added in
