3 Guide to Creating Lessons

There is more to your virtual whiteboard than being a great large screen for using your ELMO
Visual Presenter and for displaying the monitor of your computer screen. You can utilize the
functions of your whiteboard to enhance the lessons that you are presenting in your classroom.by
preparing interactive activities for your students. These not only promote the use of technology in
your classroom, but provide your students the opportunity to become active participants in the
lesson! So let’s get started…

Ways to open your Virtual Whiteboard from your computer.

1st way
If you have used your VWB recently, it may be available in your start menu.

2nd way:
Click on the Numonics icon in your systems tray (by the clock). If you are connected to your
projector, the icon will be green. If you have disconnected from your projector, the icon will be red.

3rd way:
Click on Start --All Programs, find Intelliboard, and then select Virtual Whiteboard Start from the
exposed menu.

Prompt for Save
Now that you have opened your VWB program, it is time to start designing your dynamic,
interactive lessons! The following are a series of functions that you may wish to utilize in creating
your session. You may not need to access all of the functions described, but you may wish to keep
this handout as a reference.

Before you begin, you will want to make sure that your settings require a prompt before saving.
Otherwise, each time you use the lesson in your classroom, all of the changes that the students
have made will remain on your slides! You don’t want that to happen! As you continue to create
your lesson, you can save the changes that you have made by clicking “Yes” when prompted upon
exit.

First, click on the Format option to reveal “Options.” Click to open this window.

Once the Options window is displayed, you need to set the default to “Prompt for Save.” Click to
select
1) Prompt for Save, and 2) Set as Default.

This is also where you can change the background of your

workspace to open with lines, grids, etc. If you wish to set any
of these as your default, you simply choose “Set as Default.”
For example, if you wish to always open your workspace with
ruled lines, you can set this as your default!

From here, you may also set the Print options.

Simply click on the “Print” tab to expose these settings.
Enable or disable background printing, choose the print quality,
etc.

order to access the functions, you must click the button, checking to make sure that it appears to

Utilizing the Embed/ Hyperlink Function

Exploring the function tools above to create your interactive lesson is the best way to learn the
Intelliboard 1.3 program. As you design your session, remember that you can create a Hyperlink
out to a site on the Internet. This site must be saved as a Favorites from your Explorer toolbar and
then transferred to a file on your hard drive. To do this, first visit the website that you wish to link
to:

Once you are there, click to open the dropdown menu from “Favorites” and then select “Add to
Favorites…” The website is then bookmarked for future access.

Exit the page and access your start menu to open “My Documents.”

Once you have opened My Documents, click to open the dropdown menu from “Favorites, and
click to select the web link. Hold down the left mouse as you drag the link from Favorites to a
space in My Documents. Don’t worry, Windows will automatically put the file into place.

Once you have your link stored on your hard drive, you can go back to your VWB to Embed or
Hyperlink the site. Simply click on the Embed/ Hyperlink button to open the window
displayed here. Click “Hyperlink” to choose the file from your Hard Drive. You can also
access this function under the “Insert” option from the main toolbar at the top of your screen.

Select the file you wish to access, and then click “Open.”

Note that the file you have selected appears in the space
labeled “File name:”

Intelliboard 1.3 Guide to Creating Lessons
An icon will be placed in the upper right hand corner of the VWB toolbar. When you wish to access
the link, simply click on the icon!

You can Embed other files in this manner, ie. Word Documents, PowerPoint Presentations, Adobe
Files, Links to Music or Video Files, etc.

*note: If you change the placement of the file on your hard drive, ie. put it in a different folder, you will need to Delete
the Link and repeat the Embed/ Hyperlink action steps.

Also, if you wish to move the VWB file to a portable storage device, such as a USB flash drive, you will need to Delete
the Link and repeat the Embed/ Hyperlink action steps.

If you wish to access the file from your flash drive, you can save the file there and create a link from the flash drive.
Note also that the read from a USB flash drive must also remain constant, ie. E: drive or F: drive.

The path for accessing the link must remain constant, or you will need to repeat the
Embed/ Hyperlink action steps.
