Dear Brethrens

Again we come to you with grateful hearts for having made it poss

ible for us to labor in Italy. We have won some victories, and have had soma
defeats during the past year, for each of which we thank our God. Giving Tr-rm
credit for the victories, and knowing that the defeats, whether we chose to

look at them as evidence of a needed chastening of the Lord, or because the

devil is fearful of this work, in either event they nre signs of progjcesso
Our successes in the name of our Lord are the many additional

Christians who have started on His Way during the past year^ The young people
who have been strengthened and are more determinod in their purpose to s^^rv0 Him
thru the efforts of the Bari Bible Instituteo
Our defeats: our inability to open the Institute this fall on a

full time basis however thanks again to you folks who have contributed so
generosilly, the Bible Institute is now open on a restricted basise At present

we have no boarding students, the out of town students arc being instructed in
their home villages on the regular visits of the missionaries

We have visions

of being able to open it on a full time basis ere longa You can of course see

the wisdom of not opening it again to our boarding students, until we can see
the finances to continue to so operate (and this does nofe indicate a lack of

faith),,otherwise wo will lose the confidence of many-of those now Christians

The Italian people arc a people who are soon raised to the skies and just as
quickly dashed down, thus wo must proceed with caution Too Charles and Mary
Fi'unces Phipps have been refused an extension of their sojourn, and are merely
being able to stay from day to day as the Quostura (local police) do not insist
on the "letter of the law" being obeyed, which creates an \msettled condition
WE ASK YOIE PRAYERS THAT THEY MAY RECEIVE THE REQOESTED EXrEHSION

We hope that finances will permit of regular news letters being

sent to each of you We have tried to keep you informed, but sometimes our
news was, of necessity, sonewhat spasmodice
Wo are attaching a complete report
of contributions by states, as well as the disbursements in the aggregate, and
by months, together with an itemized list of contributors in your state If for
any reason you desire a complete report of all contributors, please advise us,
as we will have a number of complete copies availabloo

In response to the various requests, wo ore showing the prosont
