PROPOSED STRUCTURE

Description of Structure
The reinforced concrete contiguous bored pile retaining wall which will
retain Assheton Way and an adjacent paved verge. A vehicle restraint
system will be fixed on top of the retaining wall to restrain errant vehicles.

Reinforced concrete contiguous bored pile retaining wall with a reinforced
concrete capping beam connecting the piles together.

Foundation Type
600m diameter reinforced concrete contiguous bored pile.
The pile length will vary dependant on the effective retained height and
adapted to suit the ground conditions.

Traffic management for inspection and maintenance to be
described in an appropriate method statement and shall be in

access.
Access to the retaining wall will be from the verge.

Construction noise.
The retaining wall will have to resist vehicular impact from the
carriageway.
Cost of the reinforced concrete bored pile option is cheaper than the
other forms of retaining walls.
The estimated cost (Q2 2007) for the construction of the reinforced
concrete bored pile retaining wall and installation of the vehicle restraint
system is 113,000. The cost excludes preliminaries, optimism bias and
traffic management.
