LULAY TAGALOG SONG LYRICS

Anong laking hirap kung pagka-iisipin

Ang gawang umibig sa babaeng mahinhin
Lumuluhod ka na'y
di ka pa mandin pansin
Sa hirap ika'y kanyang susubikin.
Ligaya ng buhay babaeng sakdal inam
Ang halaga niya'y di matutumbasan
Kahinhinan niya'y tanging kayamanan.

Reflection
Lulay is a serenade folk song from Calabarzon region. In this song it tells how hard
to court a modest woman. That whatever the man do, even he beg and kneel in
front of he woman she love, he will never be noticed by her. But once the man
succeed, all the hardship and sacrifices that he did is going to be paid of. This is a
proof on how men court the women he adores during those times. Compare to now,
that guys just use there mobile phones or social networks to court a girl. It's such a
shame that those kinds of traditions are not existing in our modern time anymore.

3. Why does the woman tests the hardship and sturdiness of the man?

Di mo ba gatanto na ako'y asusena
Ang hardinero ko'y si Ama't si ina?

about a gardener who's thoroughly preserving the fowers that hid taking care of.
Because the flowers are so pretty the gardener is keenly monitoring it, for those
people who wanted to pick flowers but didn't know how to do it well. Other than that
this song also shows the beauty of nature, and for that we have to be like the
gardener. We have to protect, safe guard and preserve out mother earth, cause
without the mother earth theres no human.

Questions
1. Who takes care of the flowers?
2. From which end you should not pluck the flowers?

undaunted and fearless. Cause, Mayon Volcano can be found in there region, they
compare Bicolana's to it. It just show what are the characteristics of the people
living in that region. For me, the characteristics and attitude of a Bicolana is so
strong, but then I can still fell the softness of there heart on how they love they're
family. Other than the people, there's so much to see and to experience in Bicol
Region. Like I've said the Mayon Volcano known for it's perfect cone shape, and
other places that you could visit there.

Ako Anak ni Tatay (I am my father's son)

Ako anak ni Tatay,
Ako ra'y puti ug diyutay;
Panahon sa kagabhion,
Ako ra'y makita dayon.
Ako anak ni Tatay,
Ako ra'y buotan ug diyutay;
Panahon sa tingpamuklay,
Ako ra'y makapahulay.
Ako anak ni Tatay,
Ako ra'y guapo ug diyutay;
Panahon sa tingpamiesta,
Ako ra'y duna'y korbata.

Reflection
The "Ako anak ni tatay" song came from Central Vsayas Region. It was about a song telling
how good he is being a son of this father. The son has fair skin that can easily see at night,
he is kind and obedient, he works hard when it's time to work hard and when his father told
him to rest he rest. During fiesta, the son wears the best pair of clothes he has. For me, this
song shows, how the son love his father, by doing good things for him, and as a daughter
this is one of the great characteristic that a sibling should have. Just for our fathers to feel
that we are thankful for there sacrifices and hardship.

Questions
1. Based on the song, what is the complexion of the son, that when it's night time he can

easily see?

Ang Bakya Mo Neneng: I am actually confused at first of what this song means. Well, in the end
there is one thing that came into my mind after giving it a thought after sometime, the speaker
here is a parent who gave Neneng the bakya when she was still young. When Neneng grew up,
Neneng forgot and maybe left the bakya because it was already no use for her, leaving her
parents sad because, it was something they have given her but now she started to forget about it,
the bakya has all her childhood memories which now means, leaving and forgetting about is also
the same as leaving all the memories behind. I find this song very sad.

from Region 1. ManangBiday is all about the courting of a man (the one that is called Ading
because he is younger than ManangBiday) to ManangBiday (Manang in Ilokano means "Ate" or
Older sister). Before the man wins the heart of ManangBiday, he should do the things or the
conditions of ManangBiday. For example, ManangBiday wants to have mangoes, the man should
pick the sweetest mangoes to please ManangBiday. If ManangBiday is satisfied to the things the
man does, he can win the young lady's heart.

Question:
1.) What kind of household chores does the song promotes?
- The song promotes doing the laundry.
2.) Compare the process of laundry that we have 80 years ago than what we have now.
- Back then people used to wash at rivers or streams. They also use wooden paddle (palo palo) to
clean their clothes. But now everything is easier for people can wash clothes at home with
washing machine and no more palo-palo just to clean the clothes.

3.) Which do you think is more effective on washing clothes the traditional method or the new
one?
- I think the old way is still the best for no many chemicals are needed just to clean the clothes,
its naturally disinfected unlike now. We used chlorine and bleach that are harmful on our health.
4.) Predict another invention for washing the clothes.
- Maybe in the near future people would start bringing portable washing machines so they can
clean their clothes anytime, anywhere.
5.) Why do we need to still remember our traditional ways?
- We need to look back for us to not forget how industrious and resourceful we are back then,
even without relying in technology.
REFLECTION:
New inventions are not bad as long as we do not forget how our ancestors had survive even
without following the latest trend on machine. The values we can learn from our past are
necessities especially now where people relies so much in machines.

Mahinhin, mabini ang lahat ng ayos
Malinis ang puso maging sa pag-irog
May tibay at tini9ng ng loob.
QUESTION:
1. Who is the main character in the song?
- The main character is the Filipina maiden
2. What are the qualities cited on the song?
- The maiden is so attractive not only on the surface but also in her actions.
3. Why do teen agers now need to be like the maiden on the song?
- They need to understand that the image of Filipina back then isnt someone who date with so
many guys. She also reserved herself only to her loved one not on any man who could offer her
sweet words.
4. What if you are given a chance to choose on which time you live which will you choose? Then
or now?
- I think I would still choose to live at present time, for back then women are severely
discriminated by patriarchal society. Now women are liberal but must not forget how to be
demure like our ancestors.
5. Create your own image of a modern Filipina. Arian Joy M. Tubia Philippine Literature BSED

- A modern Filipina knows how to act her opinion in proper way. She never abuse her freedom
nor forget her roots. She help as long as she can but not in a martyr way.

Time really changes everything. From the feelings to the character itself. But it should not be an
excuse for us to misbehave and bring shame on our reckless or impulsive deciscions.

- A nipa hut.
3. What kind of life does the song visualize?
- The song talks about the simple state of rural life the Filipinos have.
4. Prove that bahay kubo style of living is not appropriate at this time.
- In a kind of life in which a Filipino is contented in simple living, they cant assure a good life
ahead. For everything now is changing and we need to adjust to continue existing. If we dont
push ourselves for more we are awfully stuck on poverty.
5. Why do we need to innovate ourselves?
- We need to be innovative to keep on the fast track of changing in our environment. To
supplement our needs.
REFLECTION:
Filipinos are really innovative if they cant understand something they do something just to
understand it. They translate it on their native ways. We also keep on doing that on Korean
drama series and even revised the story.

me it should be free will not forced.
4. If you are in the lovers position will you still be polite on Ploning? Why say so?
- Maybe, especially if I know to myself that Ive done something punishable. But if I have
already given my apology and she still refuse, thats another story.
5. Why do we need to be polite even to those who are not so nice on us?
- We still need to be polite even to those who are not so nice on us because its the right thing to
do. I believe respect begets respect. If they dont respect me, let it be. At least I didnt let myself
be like them.
