Each of the submerged six transducer sets is connected with 70 feet of cable
to junction boxes mounted above the 500-year flood level. From there,
another 170 feet of cable is needed to cover the distance to the central
control building. One 4-channel and one 2-channel 7807 transmitters are
used to drive the transducers and process the signals, resulting in six analog
and flow proportional signals. Each section of pipe available for the
transducer installations is only 48 inches long (between a cement wall and
the pipe opening) – this posing a challenge for well developed flow profiles.
The transducer signal is strong enough to work in reflection (or 2-path) mode,
thus helping to compensate for possible flow profile irregularities. The
accuracy is high enough to assure the customer proper load balancing
between all six pumps.
