Grammar:

Nouns: count/ non count

Nouns name people, places, and things. Many nouns have both a
singular and plural form: a surfer/surfers, a restaurant/restaurants, a
pickle/pickles. Some nouns, however, have only a singular form; you
cannot add a number to the front or an s to the end of these words.
This group of nouns is called noncount.
Count
Count nouns refer to people, places, or things that can be counted.
They can be made plural, usually by adding -s or -es at the end. Here
is a chart of some Count Nouns, the categories in which they fit, and
their singular and plural forms.

Non-Count nouns are used to describe a quality, action, thing or

substance that can be poured or measured. They also refer to a whole
category made up of different varieties or a whole group of things that
is made up of many individual parts. They do not have a plural form.
Here are some examples of Non-Count Nouns, and the categories in
which they fit.

We use the seasons of the year (spring, summer, autumn, winter) with
or without the definite article.

in summer

in the summer
The American English word fall is always used with the definite
article the.
Sometimes we use the article and sometimes we do not. It often
depends on the context. Watch the following example:

1.

The student goes to school.

2.

The mother goes to the school.

In the first sentence we do not use the definite article, in the second we
do. The student goes to school for its primary purpose, so we do not
use the article.
The mother might talk to a teacher, for example. She visits the school
for a different reason. That's why we use the definite article the in the
second sentence
