He was born into a family of four siblings and doting parents.

The second of
three boys, Tom Abernathy was playful and active when growing up. Just like any
other child, he got himself into several naughty and mischievous adventures with
his brothers and sister.
In his teenage years, he would get involved with various school and
community functions and gatherings. Teachers saw so much potential in him with
his impressive scholastic achievements and extracurricular involvements. Friends,
classmates and neighbors had nothing but praise for Tom's passion, kindness and
exceptionally good behavior.
In college, Tom Abernathy was still admired by many, but, somehow, Paolo,
his closest brother, noticed some changes in his moods and energy levels. There
would be days that tom would just sleep until noon. He would be talkative one
minute, and then turn mute the next. Paolo thought Tom was just mad at him or
going through something. Tom's mood swings occurred more often that it caused
his family to worry and sometimes, get irritated because of his being so
unpredictable.
Despite these changes, Tom Abernathy graduated with a degree in
psychology and got a job as a human resource manager. However, he got into
squabbles with officemates and would always be complaining that people just do
not understand him. He would tell Paolo that they were just out to get him fired.
After these incidents, Tom would not report to work for days and would lock
himself in his room, coming out only for his meals.
One night during dinner with his parents, Tom Abernathy told them that he
went to a psychiatrist as advised by a friend who also suffers with the episodes that
were so common to Tom. He was diagnosed to have bipolar disorder. At the age of
25, Tom Abernathy, finally knew and understood himself.
Bipolar is a mental ailment that is mainly characterized by occasions of
depression and periods of extreme happiness, irritability and energy. This disorder
is also known as manic depression. It can be caused by genetic factors,
environmental stressors and physiological anomalies in the cerebral path. Strokes,
trauma, epilepsy, brain injuries, sclerosis and some infections can also bring about
bipolar disorder.
With his condition, hope was not diminished in Tom Abernathy's fight to
maintain a normal life despite having this illness. He gathered all the data available
