Naked Men Cause a Stir with Museum's New Exhibit

Art Of Naked Men Gets Censored

Naked Men - An article recently came out in the Wall Street Journal, Why Naked Men Get
Short Shrift and started off with the question, Why does the male nude get no respect?
Indeed. The article came out because of a new display in the Leopold Museum in Vienna,
Austria called Naked Men. Well now, are not they just asking for trouble with a name like
that? The museum promoted the display by putting up posters around the town of three male
soccer players, nude aside from their knee-high socks and cleats. It was not long before they
were met with a surge of complaints about the male nudity.
Let us face it: the sight of naked men disturbs peopleeven in Europe! And this was a poster.
Picture if it were live men, like in San Francisco.
The museum had posted images of full frontal female nudity without any issue, so this
backlash was supposedly unanticipated. The WSJ reported, Some are whining the pictures
remind them of sex or sexually traumatic experiences. Wait, reminded them of sex? They're
genitals. And I 'm totally sympathetic with people who have endured sexual abuse or trauma
but however, I do believe it's a fairly extreme reaction.
Naked Men Uncensored variant of "Vive La France" by Pierre and Gilles, featured on a
poster to promote the new "Naked Men" display at the Leopold Museum
Yet this remark from another report is more revealing (no pun intended): Museum officials
say they received a ton of complaints by last week, mostly from outlying districts heavily
populated by new immigrants from Muslim states. Oh. That makes sense. This is why they
are also quoted on saying the intolerance toward male nudity is somewhat religious based.
But is that any reason to give in and censor the posters? Must they appease folks who do not
desire to see male genitals on a poster because of their religious beliefs?
Female unclothed art by Gustav Klimt, apparently the most common poster in Vienna right
now. I've seen some contris of other guys and merely wanted to try. This were taken by my
wife. We are new at any of this because were we live in Central America this games are not
so very welcome. I know pics aren't the best, but I wanted to see what all this is about.
Greetings to all women in naturist. And expect to get nice comments from ladies and couples
Espero tener buenos comentarios
de mujeres y parejas
But no difficulties with this one!
In my opinion, the museum should not have capitulated and covered the genitals in red tape!
Austria just isn't a Muslim state, which is art together with freedom of expression. Why not let
folks complain or protest? It's merely depicting the body as part of an art display. By covering
it up, the museum is actually saying that the complaints were warranted. It really is also
sending a sign the body and / or genitals are obscene, always pornographic, shameful,
inappropriate, awful, and every other negative adjective it is possible to think of.
In my own world view, the member isn't any more obscene as opposed to elbow. Since the
museum had previously posted pictures of naked women with no backlash, are they saying

the vagina is alright but the organ is lousy? Inside my novel, that's a double standard since a
nude body is a naked body. The red tape can also be marring the original artwork which is a
slap in the face to the artist who created it.
I believe it really is time for folks to protest the censorship! Here is only a little note I prepared
that folks can simply copy and paste (but personalize) and email to the curator of the display
at [e-mail protected]:
Dear Tobias Natter,
It's been called to my attention that you just determined to cave to public pressure and at the
moment are covering up the posters for your own exhibit "Naked Men". If this really is true
then I find it personally disturbing and offensive. This really is an artwork display - Would you
cover Michelangelo's David if enough people complained? Since you had previously posted
posters of bare females, are you attempting to say a naked man is something which is black?
I cannot in good faith support such policies and would like one to email me back explaining
your actions. Please note, that public opinion and pressure isn't justification with this action.
Sincerely,
Is there anything healthy in continually censoring the human anatomy? Telling everyone,
adults and kids, that there is something wrong with that part of our bodies? They are simply
perpetuating the notion of body pity; a part of American, and I imagine Austrian, culture that
is harmful and time to do away with. By capitulating, and censoring Only when nakedness
has with a poor purpose with regard to the value of the individual, when its aim will be to
excite , the museum admits that there's a problem with nudity and that the naked human
form is shameful and should be covered up.
The WSJ piece tells stories of when art featuring male nudes was censored by the Catholic
Church or society. Centuries later, we still censoring them - Does that sound plausible to
you?
What can you think? Should the museum have left the Naked Men posters uncovered? Or
were they right when they decided to cover them up?
