ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First of all, the writer would like to express her special gratitude to the
glory of Almighty God, Jesus Christ for His blessing, love and guidance. This
thesis is arranged in order to fulfill one of the requirements for the Sarjana degree
from English department, the University of Darma Agung Medan (UDA).
The writer would like to express the sincere gratitude to the Dean of
Faculty of Letters Darma Agung University; Prof. Dr. Lince Sihombing, M.Pd for
her kind guidance even though in this thesis her position was as the examiner as
well as her position, the dean of Faculty of Letter of UDA in helping her getting
all administrative assistance. She is also very grateful to Dra. Martha Pardede,
M.S as the second examiner who criticizes and corrects this thesis. The writer
would also like to thank her supervisor, Drs. Reinjaya Sitohang, M.Hum and her
co supervisor, Drs. Gongsar Silaban, M.M, She is not able to write this thesis
without their helps. She works on this thesis until the end, it is because of them.

ABSTRACT
This thesis deals with The Modern Womens Conflict in Balancing with the
Role and Position in Danielle Steel's Sisters. This thesis describes the physical
and social conflict of four main female characters: Candy, Annie, Tammy, and
Sabrina in balancing their role and position as modern women in their career and
family.
This analysis is focused on the role and position of Candy, Annie, Tammy,
and Sabrina especially on how the characters in the novel conduct their role and
position due to their life achievement and how the characters in Danielle Steels
Sisters solve their problems.
This study was conducted through library research and all data were
analyzed by applying intrinsic approach particularly related to gender concept in
which ideal woman is applied in the analysis.
The findings show that the four characters in Danielle Steels Sisters are
strong women in practicing their career and family. They do their best and solve
their problems by gathering to their own family.
