SYNOPSIS
OUTLINE
A painting captures a moment in time through the lens of human imagination. Coupled
with a photograph or video of an artist producing the work creates an added level of
intimacy between the artist and viewer.
Taking the above creative concept on visually spectacular ruins and combining it with
primary and secondary source archival material fuses art and history into a format that
can be presented through a publication and multimedia exhibit.
We want to tackle this challenge and produce a timeless work that can be enjoyed for
current and future generations.
STYLE
Book
Divided into locations, a historical narrative will fill one side of the page while the other
will provide a montage of session photography, artwork and any other relevant archival
material. Footnotes will also be included for academic accuracy.
Film
Each film will be essentially a time-lapse of the artist painting at one of the four
abandoned locations. Historical narration and music will provide ambiance and
information. The ideal length will be five to ten minutes per location. Rough cuts will be
produced in order to experiment and polish the final product for the exhibit.
Painting
Artisans will be designated to one of the four locations. Taken to the site and provided
with the necessary equipment, they will be able to examine the environment and produce
an artwork that is not limited to a particular style. They will be documented during the
process through photography and video.
Exhibit
Spazju Kreattiv at the St. James Cavalier in Valletta, Malta willexhibit the artwork,
publication and historical research.
Viewers will walk into a large open space and be greeted with three white walls. One of
the walls will contain a large sized black stencil displaying Forgotten Landscapes
followed by a list of all the sponsors in a smaller size.
The two other walls will contain the artwork that will be organized by location. Each
section will contain a medium sized black stencil of the name and place of the location.
Below the stencil will showcase the artwork mounted to the wall. On one side of the
painting an LCD screen will display the short film while the other side will house a
plaque of text showcasing the artistbiography and story behind the location.
A limited viewing of all the short films will also be premiered at theSpazju Kreattiv
cinema followed by a question and answer period with the director and artisans.
DISTRIBUTION
The film will officially be made publicly available after the opening on the Wanted
Media website and its social media channels. The book will be published through LULU
and the artwork will be made available to purchase online through Saatchiart.
PARTNERSHIPS
Spazju Kreattiv has accepted this project as part of their 2016/2017 artistic season and
