TAREA 3.

2 ELECTRIC MATCHING
1. Une los diferentes instrumentos de medicin (1-5) de acuerdo con las definiciones
dadas (A-E):
A) Instrument intended to measure the value of a current
B) A non-linear device used for clamping and so measuring currents or other magnitudes
C) Device intended at testing trigger sensitivity of differential residual current breakers
D) Device which displays the contents of memories
E) Instrument intended to detect a leakage current to earth
1) Clamp meter B
2) Earth leakage detector E
3) Digital display D
4) Differential breaker sensitivity tester C
5) Ammeter A
2. Define the following instruments basing on unit 3:
- Earth resistance meter: INSTRUMENT INTENTED TO MEASURE THE RESISTANCE OF AN EARTH
CONNECTION
- Energy meter: INSTRUMENT INTENTED TO MEASURE ELECTRICAL ENERGY BY INTEGRATING POWER
WITH RESPECT TO TIME.

Multimeter and which their 6 main operations are: MULTIRANGE MULTIFUNCTION MEASURING
INSTRUMENT INTENTED TO MEASURE VOLTAGE, CURRENT AND SOMETIMES OTHER ELECTRICAL
QUANTITIES SUCH AS RESISTANCE.
* RESISTANCE MEASURING: The device to be used is the so- calledohmmeter. When using a multimeter,
the "resistance measurement" function can be selected. The resistors -or set of resistors'- resistance
can be measured by connecting a test lead to each terminal of the resistor being disconnected from the
electric supply.
* VOLTAGE MEASURING: The voltmeter is the device to be used in these cases. The multimeter function
adecuate for this type of measurements is the "voltage measurung" function. The test leads need to be
placed in parallel with the power supplies terminals or in parallel with the terminals of the component
to be measured, for example, a resistor.
The same procedure applies both to AC and DC.
* CURRENT MEASURING: The measuring device to be used is named ammeter. The "current measuring
" function of the multimeter can be used.
The test leads must be placed across (in series with) the circuit conductor whose current want to be
measured. This entails some incovenience, as the electric circuit needs to be opened to connect the
multimeter in between. Such incovenience can be avoided by using a device called clamp meter; this
clamp will embrance the conductor whose currents, no matter if they are AC or DC are. It must be
reminded that most multimeters only feature the DC option.
For current values below 200 mA, the VmA input terminal must be used; for current values between
200 mA and 10 A, the input terminals to be use is the 10A one.
* DIODE MEASURING: The "diode measurement" function of the multimeter will be used by selecting
the hFE range
(Placing the selector pointing in this sign).
The diode needs to be adequately placed into the test socked of the multimeter, by distinguishing the
emitter, base and collector and correctly identifying the transistor type (NPN or PNP).
The hFE value will be automatically displayed.
* TRANSISTOR MEASURING: The " transistor measuring" function of the multimeter will be used by
connecting the red test lead to the diodes and the black test lead to the cathode. The voltage drop is
shown on the LCD in mV units, if the diode is wrongly placed (back to from), the digit "1" is displayed.
* RANGE: The "range" function is utilised for generating a squared wave of roughly 2 V peak-peak
amplitude and 60Hz frequency. This type of wave is useful for routine checking of amplifiers and lowfrequency circuits.
