1 Scope:
This Procedure covers erection and removal of formwork and checking of formwork.
2 Reference:
a) Contract specification PL/E&C/CONTR/CIVIL/SSPL/ML/2002-03/20 VOLUME II of IV,
b) IS 456 - 2000.
3 Method:3.1 Erection of form work:Erect stagging/shuttering as per drawing/sketches in such a way that
3.1.1 deshuttering can be done easily including provision for re-propping, if being
planned.
3.1.2 Check the location, line, level, plumb and dimensions of the formwork to
ensure that the deviations are within the permissible limits.
3.1.3 Provide bracing at proper places & intervals as specified by the manufacturer
or as per formwork scheme to take care of lateral loads.
3.1.4 Apply approved form oil/other coatings as release agents before reinforcement s
Check all the shutters are properly aligned and fixed firmly with required
3.1.5 lateral supports and ties. Check all the spanning members have proper
bearinng at the supports.
3.1.6 Wedges or jacks shall be secured in position after the final check of alignment.
Forms shall be thoroughly cleaned of all dirt, mortar and other matters such as
3.1.7 metals, blocks, saw dust and foreign materials before concreting if required
through clean-out openings.
3.1.8 Check all the gaps/openings are properly closed to avoid leakages.
3.1.9 Check all the inserts/embedments and openings are exactly placed as per the
3.1.10 Inspection of forms before concreting.
In case of leakages, bulging and sagging immediate actions shall be taken by
3.1.11 tightening wedges or adjusting by jacks which must be done before the
concrete takes its initial set.
3.2 Removal of Forms:3.2.1 All forms shall be removed after the minimum period stipulated below without
damage to the concrete including removal without shock.
Minimum period before removal of formwork
Wall, columns and vertical faces of all structural
members : 12 to 24 hours
Slab (props left under) : 3 days
Beam soffits(props left under) : 7 days
Cantelever construction : Form work shall remain till structures for counter ac

3.2.2 Formwork components shall not be dropped but shall be lowered without
damage to the components and structures.
3.2.3 All the removed formwork materials shall be cleaned immediately an
4 Tolerance on Construction. As per IS 456-2000 Cl. 11.1.
The following are the permissible tolerances.
4.1 Columns and beams.
4.1.1 Variation from specified dimensio 6 to 12 mm
4.2 Footing:
4.2.1 Variations in plan dimension
- 12 mm to + 50 mm
4.2.2 Eccentricity
0.02 times the width of the footing in the direction of deviation but
not more than 50mm.
4.2.3 Thickness
+/- 0.5 times the specified thickness.
4.2.2 Deviation in length (major dimension of single unit)
Upto 3 m +/- 6mm
3 m to 4.5 m +/- 9mm
4.5m to 6m +/-12mm
Additional deviation
for every subsequent 6m +/- 6mm
4.2.3 Deviation in straightness or bow (deviation from specified line) for a single or
cotinuous member eg. Beam column or slab edge.
Upto 3m 6mm
3m to 6m 9mm
6m to 12m 12mm
Additional deviation for every
subsequent 6m 6mm
