In this Instructable, we are going to have a look at a quick way to copy a key.

Handy if you want to keep a spare key in your wallet or copy somebodies key (for
a prank, etc)

Not all the keys can be copied this way.

What do you need:

A key to be copied
If you are really in the rush, 1 minutes should be enough to copy key cuts.
Scotch tape
Material for the new key.

I used aluminium from a door sign. Plastic should also work.

Lighter or/and a candle

Step 1:

Blacken the key on a candle.

You can also use a lighter, but I prefer candle.

Step 2:

Put a piece of scotch tape on the key.

Go over the tape with your finger, so the scotch tape would pick up the colour.

Step 3:

Put the scotch tape on a piece of metal/plastic.

Cut out the key with scissors.

I tried to make it from a plastic bottle and from aluminium.
Aluminium worked better, but it was too soft to say that the key will last.

how do you cut out metal that is thick enough for a key, with scissors? is this a

For a thick metal you will need to use shears or another

The key I cut was made from aluminium sign, so it was

easy to cut it with scissors.

It's easy if choose a suitable material and you take

time to cut out the key.
It took me a few tries before making it work.
