Power cable requirements

1.1 General requirements

To fulfill EMC requirements, screened cables are mandatory.

If the cross-section of the cable screen is less than 50% of the crosssection of the phase conductor, an additional equipotential bonding
conductor is required. This conductor is laid in parallel to the phase
conductor.

1.3 Definitions
Rating factor

The current carrying capacity of cables is defined for


sinusoidal waveforms.
For operation with non-sinusoidal waveforms, the
current carrying capacity is reduced by the rating
factor.
The rating factor covers only converter operation.
Additional reduction factors due to ambient conditions
and cable routing have to be taken into account
according to the cable datasheet.
