In case of critical packing conditions, products having special physical characteristics shall be anchored with suitable blocking
devices.
7.2

LOAD, OVERLOAD COMBINATION

The loads "c" and "d" do not act concurrently with the overloads "e" and "f" and "g" and vice versa.
Load "f" shall be taken into account for cover sheathing dimensioning (boards and plywood).
For the dimensioning of the other members of the cover, load "a" shall be used, and overload "e" concurrently.
For the dimensioning of sides overload "g" shall be used together and load "a" concurrently.
For the dimensioning of sides overload "g" shall be used together and load "a" concurrently.
The thrusts of "c" and "d" shall be useful for the dimensioning of all the structures involved in horizontal thrusts.
For the dimensioning of the longitudinal beams, the max allowable stress of timber shall be determined, the section is obtained
according to the mass and asset of the contents, the width of the container and the dimensions between the forking centers or
the rope strapping points.

CONTENT ANCHORING.

The contents shall be anchored only to the base (bottom) without any contribution from the sides, head and cover with anchor
bolts, bolts and studs to fix and avoid a longitudinal, transversal or tilting movement. The locking and connecting elements shall
be constantly controlled. Therefore, the weight of the material and the related overload, due to the accelerations act on the base
only.
The cases may be used for the following:
- Support the load for which they shall have a sufficiently rigid base to bear their own idle weight of the packed unit without any
contribution from the latter.
- Simply form a supporting base and to protect the packed equipment provided that the latter has an adequate degree of stiffness
and self-bearing capacity without any sort of external contribution.
The packed load in this case, may be supported by means of a solid anchoring, as follows:
- The floor (which already has a bearing feature).
- The load bearing members.
The packed goods are directly or indirectly supported by the base members. Usually the load distribution and the basic support
of the packed unit will not rest directly and evenly on the on the side skids but require auxiliary members.
These are structural elements that are added whenever necessary-to the main supporting skids to obtain either or both of the
following conditions:
- To facilitate the anchoring of the goods to be packed when their base is not directly resting on the skids by means of the
construction of saddles or supporting structures reserved for this specific purpose.
- To extend load distribution by eliminating any sort of concentrated loads.
9

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

LOAD BEARING MEMBERS

The pack goods are directly or indirectly supported by the base members.
Usually, the load distribution and the basic support of the packed unit will not be resting directly and evenly on the side skids but
require auxiliary members.
These are structural elements that are added whenever necessary to the main supporting skids to obtain either or both of the
following conditions:
- To facilitate anchoring of the goods to be packed when their base is not directly resting on the skids.
- To extend the load distribution by eliminating any concentrated loads.
If deemed advisable, the auxiliary load bearing members can also consist of steel plates directly secured to the skids by means
of through-bolts.
The aforementioned shall be located to permit the fastening of the equipment to be packed, with the aid of through-bolts.
Positioning and dimensioning of the transverse load bearing members are determined by the Packer, if necessary with the
assistance of the manufacturer of the equipment.
Fastening modalities of such a load bearings are listed in Table 7.
DCS reserves the right to approve the drawing before the implementation.
If the load is entirely borne with the skids without resting on the floor, the lumbers shall have the thickness as illustrated by Table
6.
Generally, it should be observed that the overall weight of the walls and roof is not contributing to the flexure of the skids since
the latter have less flexural rigidity than the walls.
Positioning and possible anchoring of the box to the means of transport shall take into account that-with respect to the lateral
thrust due to horizontal acceleration:
- The base beam dimensioning is referred to vertically acting forces established for lifting, which can not coincide with the
horizontal locking ones.
