Course Objectives

To provide engineers with a framework in

which the structure-mechanical property
interrelation of engineering materials can be
rationalized, in order to predict performance
at the design, manufacture and in-service
stages
To provide understanding in the concepts of
corrosion and degradation of different
materials

Course Outcomes
1. Correlate the structures of a material with its
behaviours and performance at different temperature
2. Evaluate the methods of assessing the materials
mechanical behaviours
3. Outline the important criteria on materials processing
for applications
4. Select suitable metallic or non-metallic materials for
specific environment applications in terms of
corrosion properties
5. Construct experiments, analyse and interpret data
