CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

DESIGN
This study will utilize a cross sectonal analytical design in determining the acceptability rate
of the subject research among the level IV medical students of SOM between May 20 to July 1,
2016.
SETTING
This study will be conducted at the ateneo De Zamboanga school of Medicine. The medical
school has been 20 years pioneering research in the region. Research has been a core
component of the comptenecies needed by medical sstudents upon graduation. It is the only
medical school in the Philippines with a pure PBL curriculum.
RESPONDENTS
The following are the eligibility criteria for this study;
Inclusion criteris
-

Level IV medical students enrolled between May July 2016

Exclusion criteria
-

Level Iv medical students that wishes to not participat in the study

Level Iv students who are not present in the study

SAMPLE SIZE AND SAMPING TECHNIQUES

With a target population of 36 level 4 medical students with an expected 30% frequency that
the level 4 medical students has accepted research as a need, with confidence limits of 5% the

calculated sample size is 32 to give the study 95%significance and power. The sample size was
computed using formula for estimating proportions using epi-info stat calc. simple random
sampling (SRS) technique will be used in the selection of subjects in the study using the
masterlist as source and random table generator of excel.
DATA COLLECTION
a. Survey- we will conduct face to face interview with the respondents using a standard
questionnaire.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
1. Survey Questionnaire- this will be a structured questionnaire and is previously pretested
with a cronbachs alpha of 0.70
DATA ANALYSIS
Age, sex and other variables will be measured using proportions and will be presented using
tables and graphs. Association will be assessed using chi-square test for categorical variables.
All data will be computerized using excel spreadsheet. STATA version 13 will be used in the
analysis of the ssociation.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
This study will not be implemented unless approved by the ERB of the university.
Confidentiality and privacy of the subjects will be maintained using codes to anonymize
respodents.Personal identifers will be deleted and only demographic data will be incuded.
