Showcase

Purpose Of This Assignment

The aim of this project is to enable actors to develop their acting skills through the
exploration of different acting techniques, including preparation and reflection.
Scenario
T.T.A London, a brand new actors agency, have recently advertised that they are looking for
actors to take onto their books. They are specifically looking for actors to put forward for
film, TV, radio, theatre and commercial work. They have contacted the Miskin Theatre and
asked to see our most experienced actors. It has been agreed that as a company you will
organise and produce an actors showcase that you will perform to them in London. It is
advisable that you also advertise your show to other prospective employers, theatre
companies, agents, drama schools, promotors, funders, etc. Your showcase is an
opportunity to market yourself to all potential employers and clients so professionalism is
essential.

Assignment Feedback
Formative Feedback & Observations
(Assessor To Actor)
Process & Rehearsals:
Stronger sense of positivity during some rehearsals.
Professional attitude towards the work but can sometimes allow mood to dictate the
progression of the work.
Proficient vocal ability but has lost some strength and technique.
Generation of material is limited and needs expansion.
Style of material chosen is limiting versatility.
Monologue needs honesty and engagement.
Performance material lacks sensitivity and subtlety.
Struggling to find contrasting material.
Would benefit from performing alongside other actors to convey chemistry and
relationships.
Written work is thorough and well considered.
Character interpretation is slightly too old for actual playing age.
Decision to work on both Lil Abner and Showcase appears to be having a negative impact
on the quality of work produced.
Construction Of The Piece:
Based on the run of the show this evening I have decided that music is an unnecessary
element. The transitions are fluid enough that it is not feasible to add sound between
scenes and given the fact that there was only one scene where I felt that it was actually
aiding the atmosphere it is a wasted exercise trying to crow-bar tracks into the show. After
all this piece is about highlighting your acting not the technical arrangement. Lets leave it
up to you as the artists to create the right atmosphere.
CV Preparation:
Height should read as follows (5 4).
Weight should read as follows (8st 6lb).
Accents and skills should be in separate paragraphs.
All experience and credits should be clearly laid out in a table. Not in lists.
Examples of skills - Foxtrot, Waltz, Clown, Commedia DellArte, Mask, Physical Theatre,
Rope Work, Silks, Skin Work, Story Telling, Theatre In Education, Cricket, Cycling, Free
Running/Parkour, Football, Pool, Running, Stage Combat, Yoga, Swimming, Car Driving
License, Acrobatics, Aerial Work, Trapeze, Devising, Drama Workshop Leader,
Improvisation, Mime, Narration, Puppetry, Story Telling

Action Plan

Throughout my training I have struggled to interact with people and I find that make
judgements far too quickly. In order to address this weakness I am going to make a positive
log of each day with all the positive and important things that I receive from others. I will
then share that log at the end of every week in the hope of encouraging a more positive
outlook.

Summative Feedback
Charlotte, throughout the process you worked hard to infuse some much needed wisdom onto the
company and it was clear that your acceptance into Rose Bruford had a positive impact on your
attitude on the rehearsal floor. On a number of occasions I witnessed you taking on the role of
piece maker when the company became argumentative and fractured. It is important that you
remember the positive impact that an optimistic mind can have. Your mood on the rehearsal floor
can be very easily influenced and often your positivity would be quickly over-shadowed by the
companys low morale. Your ability to lead detailed, well structured, complex workshops is greatly
improving and your leadership style and technique is beginning to develop. It is important that you
take note of these developments and use them to your advantage in the directing process. You
must also continue to creatively develop your voice. You have a solid ability but have picked up a
number of bad habits that are detrimental to your progression and must be eradicated. You must
ensure that your preparation for performances is suitable for your individual needs. The company
warm up prior to your performance was weak and this left you feeling under prepared and exposed
in front of the audience. You are already beginning to make positive and effective choices with
your characters on Lil Abner and I urge you to continue on this path. Throughout the process you
struggled to generate material without aid and I encourage you to trust in your understanding and
knowledge on the next process. Be open minded to criticism but confident and self-assured in your
ability.
Feedback
(Actor To Assessor)

Love to lead but when I dont feel safe with the company I end up going into defensive
mode.
Very rushed process.
Found it very stressful.
Wasnt as present because of tiredness.
One of the processes that I thought I would love but actually hated.
Monologue was ok but was under prepared.
The song could have had more preparation.
Vocally have struggled with the throat being open when singing solos.
Got through it and it was ok.
