Project Management

The Project management is a key success factor for all KVT engineering processes.
Schedule planning with clear and reasonable project objectives, resources allocation, cost
controlling are activities of project management. The project manager is generally the project
activities coordinator, assures on-time deliveries, he is the reference person for the clients. The
project manager is responsible for the Quality Plan and HSSE Plan for each project.
The project management activities include:
Project Plan (Scheduling Tasks, Resources and Time)
Once the requirements are completely documented from the client side, the project plan can
start.
The project plan is a detailed list of tasks and who is responsible for each task with a set of
milestones and dependencies. The plan is regularly updated to monitor the project and manage
any delays in the schedule. Proper control of time requires the careful identification of tasks to
be performed, an accurate estimation of their durations, the sequence in which they are going
to be done, and how people and resources are allocated.
The project management planning tools are used to support this phase.
Critical Points Plan
At KVT every project has a critical points plan to highlight probable risks. The project team talks
about expected problems at an early stage of the project and suggest solutions for how they
might be avoided. In this way many problems can be predicted.
Dependencies List
A dependency is a package of activities that needs to be completed before another project
phase work can be started. Understanding in detail how and why the second task is dependent
on the first task is critical to success. When a dependency breaks down, the negative impacts
can involve the whole project.
Communication/ Project Delivery
A project is successful when the end result respects the client expectations. The project
manager reports directly to the client for project execution and holds overall management
responsibility for meeting the project objectives in respect of schedule, cost, HSSE and quality.
The project manager has responsibility for regular communication, to ensure that the
expectations of all concerned are managed and fully understood. Besides the project manager is
responsible for weekly meetings, monthly meetings, milestones meeting to review the project
status internally and with the costumer.

Engineering
2.1

Process Engineering

The process engineering is the core activity for the company. The process is developed from the
client process requirements and will ensure: throughput rate; process yield; product purity. The
process engineering activities begin with the clients requirements and proceed with the process
concept definition than follows: process flow diagram, P&ID, mass and heat balance, equipment
list, valves list and specification, datasheets; plant layout in collaboration with the mechanical
department; pipe line schedule; operating philosophy; reliability and maintenance philosophy
until commissioning procedure and the operation and maintenance handbook.
2.2

Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering department`s activities begin with the plant layout in the Basic
Engineering phase when the process concept is defined. The mechanical engineering
department receives project requirements from the process engineering department and then
develops:
steel structure design drawings; mechanical design; assembly drawings, gas duct design
drawings; piping drawings (isometry); pipe stress calculation; surface and painting specification.
At the KVT the mechanical engineering activities are achieved with advanced software support.
2.3

Electrical and Instrument Engineering

The Electrical & Instrument engineering department designs improved system automation to
control the process parameters ensuring productivity, reliability, safety, optimization, and
stability.
The KVT Engineering Team is specialized in:
Choise , specification, development of field devices
Detail plan and construction plan of electrical cabinets (control cabinet, motor cabinet,
frequency inverter cabinet)
Low voltage distribution
Specification for electro-filter (WESP)
FDS (functional design specification) und cause-and-effect analysis
Software for process automation
Single line diagrams
Process visualization and control
Electric lighting Plan
Troubleshooting and supporting of instruments and instrumentation
Commissioning and operating support
Order development for electro-technical instruments and instrumentation

Chemical Engineering

For a reliable, efficient and economical plant performance the process chemical reactions are the
essential parameters to be designed and controlled.
The KVT chemical engineering team is a dedicated group that develop individual processes to
improve and optimize chemical reactions in the process plant. The engineering team work in
collaboration with the process engineering group ensuring total integration.
After the requirement clarifications from the client side the engineering activities are developed.
The engineering package is then carried out in two phases:
Basic Engineering Package
Detail Engineering Package
The main Basic Engineering Package activities include:
Process description
Process flow diagram
Instrument design specification
Plant layout
Equipment schedule
Preliminary P&ID
The main Detail Enginnering activities include:
P&ID
Equipment data sheet
Functional design specification
Plot plan
Platework drawing

The engineering activities are achieved with the KVT Standard.

Commissioning

The commissioning activities ensure that the implementation of the plant systems has been
achieved and they are tested, operated and maintained according to the operational
requirements. Commissioning also helps to ensure these requirements are sustainable through
verification of training, systems manuals and warranties.
With the plant commissioning, procedures engineers check every single operational function of
the plant and then verify its integration in the whole plant.
Major commissioning procedures include:
Erection and installation procedure for main equipment and duct, providing an overview about
the works which have to be carried out during the erection and installation of the plant.
Loading procedure
Flushing procedure, describes the general guidelines for preservation of materials and
equipment
Procedure to verify plant installation versus project P&IDs.
Inspection procedure of major/ proprietary equipment installations.
Procedure to verify critical control loop logic and interlock functions.

After-Sale Program

With the after-sale program the experienced KVT team offers support to the client after the
delivery, ensuring robust plant operations.
The after-sales program offers service packages that are tailored for each type of plant and
customers needs.
The after-sales package includes:
Equipment inspection
Regular catalyst tests
Process optimization in case of changing parameters design
Spare part supporting and installation supervision
Repairs consulting and supervision
Maintenance plan consulting
