Red River Valley

"Red River Valley" is a folk song and cowboy music standard of controversial origins that has gone by
different namese.g., "Cowboy Love Song", "Bright Sherman Valley", "Bright Laurel Valley", "In the Bright
Mohawk Valley", and "Bright Little Valley"depending on where it has been sung. It is listed as Roud Folk
Song Index 756, and by Edith Fowke as FO 13. It is recognizable by its chorus (with several variations):
From this valley they say you are going.
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile,
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our pathway a while.
So come sit by my side if you love me.
Do not hasten to bid me adieu.
Just remember the Red River Valley,
And the cowboy that has loved you so true.

Dutch folk dance

Dutch folk dance are the traditional dances that were performed for the folk.
Many[who?] associate Dutch folk dance with clogging, though clogs in practice limit the dance moves. Therefore,
the folk dance is mostly danced in shoes. Historically the Dutch danced in shoes as this was part of their Church
going clothing.[citation needed] Clogs were used for work only.
Most folk dances regarded as Dutch are actually from Scottish origin, like Skotse trije, Skotse fjouwer,
horlepiep of hakke toone. In the East of the Netherlands dances like Driekusman, Hoksebarger, Veleta,
Kruispolka and the Spaanse Wals are of German origin.[citation needed]
Nowadays new folk dances are still being created. It concerns new dance moves (patterns) that borrow from the
traditional dances.
Folk dances are not often danced anymore. Some old fashioned farmer weddings still feature them and in old
people homes the dances are used as exercise; There are few dancers under the age of forty.

Yangko Dance
The Yangko dance is a traditional folk dance of the Han Chinese. It originated from China and happens to be a
popular part of their culture. It involves swaying of the body to certain rhythms. The waist and the hip are used
to drive feet in order to sync with the music. The dance has a one thousand year history in China and is usually
performed in the Lantern Festival. You can see a lot of videos on YouTube concerning the dance. Yangko has
changed since its inception and the one that we see now happens to come from the late 1940s.

Belly Dance
Belly dance is a Western-coined name for a traditional West Asian dance, especially Raqs Sharqi. It is
sometimes also called Middle Eastern dance or Arabic dance in the West. The term Belly dance is a misnomer
as every part of the body is involved in the dance. The most featured body part being the hips. It basically
originated from Middle East. For me no one does it better than Shakira. Belly dance was popularized in the
West during the Romantic movement of the 18th and 19th centuries, when Orientalist artists depicted
romanticized images of harem life in the Ottoman Empire.

Tap Dance
Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates
that are attached to both the ball and heel of the dancers shoe. Special shoes are made for
dancing the tap. These metal plates, when tapped against a hard surface, create a percussive
sound and as such the dancers are considered to be musicians. Tap dance has roots in African
American dancing such as the Juba Dance, English Lancashire Clog dancing, and probably most
notably Irish stepdancing. It is believed to have begun in the mid-1800s during the rise of
minstrel shows.
