SCREENPLAY: “GULABO KI CHALLAKIAN”

Gul Khan (A young man from Swat)

Gulabo (Gul Khan’s new girlfriend)

Don Shakoor (Lahore’s notorious drug dealer)

Butt (Don Shakoor’s guard)

Gul Khan, an innocent IDP from Swat who has migrated to

Islamabad, is lured into a drug smuggling deal by a girl whom he
falls in love with.

Scene 1: EXT. GUL KHAN’S HOUSE IN ISLAMABAD – DAY

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan, in his late 20s, dressed in Kurta Shalwar
stands outside his house casually smoking a cigarette.

Camera zooms out - showing Gulabo and Gul Khan both in frame:
Gulabo, late 20s, wearing ebony, standing outside her home’s gate, next to
Gul Khan’s, watching towards Gul Khan.

Camera - shot of both Gulabo and Gul Khan: Gulabo walks towards Gul
Khan and introduces herself as his neighbor and they both chat with each
other. Gul Khan tells her about himself and in the end they exchange
numbers and Gulabo tells him to call her.

Scene 2: Montage of Gul Khan and Gulabo enjoying with each other
over the course of coming few weeks – having dinner together at Pir
sohawa – jogging together in a park – walking hand in hand in park –
driving in Gulabo’s car together – watching movie in cinema….

Scene 3: (after a few weeks) EST. SHOT GUL KHAN’S HOUSE

Scene 4: INT. GUL KHAN’S HOUSE

Camera on Gulabo and Gul Khan: Gulabo is with Gul Khan in his room.
His room is a small room with TV on one side and bed on the other side.
Gulabo explains to Gul Khan about a drug deal she has been offered to

complete in Lahore for which they would be getting a handsome amount of
money. She tells him that she had contacts with a notorious drug dealer in
Lahore whose name was Don Shakoor and he had offered her to come there
and get some quantity of high quality heroin smuggled back to Islamabad
and deliver it there to his client. Now near to a month into their relationship,
Gul Khan has developed feelings for Gulabo and listens to her plan worriedly.
After listening to the entire plan, Gul Khan is really worried.

Camera on Gul Khan’s face: Gul Khan’s expression is really worried.

Camera zooms out – showing both in frame: Gul Khan tries to reason
with Gulabo and explains her that it is too risky. They start having an
argument about it. She asks Gul Khan to accompany her. Gul Khan refuses at
first telling her that it is way too risky but Gulabo then starts emotionally
black mailing him and tells him that if he does not accompany her, she would
go alone in any case, and risk getting kidnapped or raped there. But Gul
Khan keeps on saying that it is too risky. Finally Gulabo gets angry and turns
on her back and starts to leave.

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan sits on his bed in his frustration holding his
head.

Camera zooms out showing both Gul Khan and Gulabo: Gulabo has her
hand on the door of Gul Khan’s room when Gul Khan finally gives in and calls
her back. Gul Khan’s love for Gulabo finally makes him agree to her
demands.

Scene 5: NEXT DAY – EST. SHOT DAEWOO TERMINAL LAHORE

Scene 6: INT. DAEWOO TERMINAL

Camera on Gul Khan and Gulabo: Gul Khan and Gulabo arrive in Lahore
for the drug deal through Daewoo and are shown getting out of the Daewoo
terminal cautiously looking here and there.

Camera changes and shows an SUV stopping at a distance from the

terminal with 2 burly men inside: Don Shakoor’s men arrive in an SUV
and stop and watch Gul Khan and Gulabo and catch their eye. They nod to
Gul Khan and Gulabo.

Camera on Gul Khan and Gulabo: Gul Khan and Gulabo understand that
these are Don Shakoor’s men sent by him to pick them up. They walk
towards the SUV and sit in it and the men silently start driving.

Scene 7: EST. SHOT – DON SHAKOOR’S DEN

Don Shakoor’s Den is a big bungalow with guards outside it and on the roof
as well.

Scene 8: INT. DON SHAKOOR’S DEN

An elegant bungalow with expensive decoration.

Camera on Gul Khan and Gulabo: Gul Khan and Gulabo are escorted into
Don Shakoor’s Den. They both have anxious expressions on their faces. They
are escorted into Don Shakoor’s living room.

Scene 9: DON SHAKOOR’S LIVING ROOM

A very big and fat man is sitting on a grand sofa. It is Don Shakoor. The living
room is well decorated with expensive furniture and fittings.

Guns and ammunition are lying on the elegant glass table in front of him.
Packets of heroin are also lying on the table. Two body guards (Basheer and
Butt) are standing on each side of the sofa.

OTS of Don Shakoor: Don Shakoor is smoking a cigar. Gul Khan and
Gulabo are brought in front of him. He starts talking to Gulabo and explains
her that she would have to strip and they would tape the packets of heroin
on her torso and legs and then she would conceal it by wearing her clothes
over them. Don Shakoor tells her that security staff at the Lahore bus
terminal only body search passengers if the metal detector would sound on
them. So in this way, she would easily be able to pass through the security
check with the heroin concealed under her clothes, taped to her body.

Camera on Gulabo: Gulabo has a look of extreme fright on her face. She
tells Don Shakoor that she would not strip in front of them.

Camera on Don Shakoor: This infuriates Don Shakoor and he draws out his
weapon and his men follow suit. He tells Gulabo that now that she has taken
up the offer of smuggling the heroin, she would have to complete the deal or
they would kill her and Gul Khan both.

Camera zooms out showing everyone in the room: With guns pointed
at them, under pressure, and with his immense love for Gulabo, Gul Khan
steps in and offers himself for getting taped with the drugs.

Scene 10: ROOM IN DON SHAKOOR’S DEN

Gul Khan is taken by Don Shakoor’s men into another room for taping the
packets of heroin to him. He takes off his shirt and the men start taping the
packets on his body tightly. He wears his shirt after they’ve taped all the
packets.

Scene 11: DON SHAKOOR’S LIVING ROOM

Gul Khan comes back in the first room and is shocked to see Gulabo tied with
ropes there, sitting on her knees on the floor.

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan’s expression is of utter shock and fright. He
at once jolts towards Gulabo but both of Don Shakoor’s guard leap at him
and restrain him.

Camera on Don Shakoor: Don Shakoor tells Gul Khan with a laugh that
they would keep Gulabo as a prisoner and would release her and send her
back with the money as soon as Gul Khan would complete the drug deal and
inform about it on Gulabo’s cell phone number.

With that, Gul Khan is shoved out of the den by Don Shakoor’s men.

Scene 12: EXT. DON SHAKOOR’S DEN

Camera on main door: Main door of Don Shakoor’s Den opens and Gul
Khan, held by Don Shakoor’s ben with guns, is roughly escorted out towards
a waiting car to take him to the bus station to return to Islamabad with the
heroin. He is roughly pushed inside the car.

Scene 13: EST. SHOT DAEWOO BUS TERMINAL LAHORE

Scene 14: EXT. DAEWOO TERMINAL LAHORE

Don Shakoor’s men arrive with Gul Khan in front of the bus terminal. They
give a firm warning to Gul Khan not to make any wrong move and go straight
inside the terminal and board the bus to Islamabad, as they’ll be standing by
and watching his every move.

With that, Gul Khan gets out of the car and walks towards the terminal.

Scene 15: INT. DAEWOO TERMINAL LAHORE

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan nervously walks towards the departure
lounge, praying that everything would go on smoothly. He sees the security
scanners and security officers checking passengers’ luggage. That makes
him even more nervous. He hesitates in approaching the security check.

Scene 16: DEPARTURE LOUNGE

Announcement for his bus is made. Gul Khan has to pass through the
security checks now. He walks towards the walk through metal detectors
nervously. He passes under the metal detector and suddenly it starts
buzzing. Gul Khan freezes. He thinks to himself that he would be busted now.

Camera on security officer: Security officer approaches Gul Khan and

observes him for a moment. Then tells him to take off his belt and shoes and
pass through the metal detector.

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan takes off his belt and shoes and hands
them over to the security officer and passes through the metal detector
again. To his relief, the metal detector doesn’t buzz now.

Camera on Gul Khan and Security officer: Security officer hands back
Gul Khan’s stuff to him and doesn’t body search him. Gul Khan is free to
board the bus now.

Camera on Gul Khan’s face: Gul Khan breathes a sigh of relief.

Scene 17: BUS BAY

Gul Khan boards the bus bound for Islamabad.

Scene 18: INT. BUS

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan is engrossed in deep thought.

FLASHBACK

Montage: Gul Khan thinks of the times he had with Gulabo. Thinks about
what condition she would be in right now.

END FLASHBACK

Scene 19: ISLAMABAD BUS TERMINAL

Gul Khan arrives in Islamabad and gets off the bus and looks here and there
and then takes a taxi and goes straight to the address he was given to
deliver the heroin.

Scene 20: EST. SHOT DON SHAKOOR’S DEN – LAHORE

Scene 21: DON SHAKOOR’S LIVING ROOM

Camera close up on cell phone lying on glass table: Gulabo’s cell
phone buzzes with Gul Khan’s text.

Camera behind Gulabo’s back: Gulabo comes to pick her phone up and
sees Gul Khan’s text. Gul Khan has texted her that he has delivered the
heroin.

Camera on second phone lying on glass table: Second phone buzzes.

An arm extends and picks it up.

OTS Don Shakoor: Don Shakoor attends the phone call. It is from the client
who received the drugs. He gives affirmation to Don Shakoor that Gul Khan
has just delivered him the drugs.

Camera zooms out showing Gulabo standing in the living room and
Don Shakoor sitting on Sofa: Gulabo smiles to Don Shakoor and Don
Shakoor smiles back to her. On the glass table there are beer goblets.
Gulabo walks towards the sofa and sits on it next to Don Shakoor. They both
pick up beer goblets and toast to each other and laugh maliciously at Gul
Khan’s innocence.

Scene 22: ISLAMABAD – OUTSIDE DRUG CLIENT’S HOME

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan starts walking back towards the road
engrossed in deep thought with head bent down.

Camera zooms out showing big burly man at a distance: A big burly
man with a gun in his hand watches Gul Khan from a distance. He points his
weapon towards Gul Khan. Fires one shot.

Camera on Gul Khan: Gul Khan drops on the ground in a pool of blood. He
is dead.

(Gulabo was actually Don Shakoor’s agent and had lured Gul Khan into a trap
– the entire deal was pre planned and Gulabo was experienced in luring
innocent guys by cheating them with love and in the end getting drug deals
done through them).
