F ORWOR D
Kaleidoscope is a well chosen name for the 2016 Animation
show. It reflects the diverse directions that the students have
taken their studies. Rather like glass millefiori from Murano,
their animation sparkles beside one another, each one
contained, and each one neighbouring the other to create a
collection that is colourful, dextrous and impressive.
There is a danger that animation production is perceived
as easy. There are hundreds of studio hours of practice to
make these few moments of action. The aim is to transmit the
content and story. The moment is soon over. All that remains
is a nuance of what happened, of what you saw and heard.
Hopefully, for you animators, that transmission will be enough
of a draw to make you go back again and again to make
more animation.
I am delighted to have been asked to write these few words
at the head of this catalogue, It has been a pleasure to watch
the progress of this class over the last three years, I wish you
all the very best for the future and welcome you to a growing
number of graduates from our lush corner of these Isles on the
Western edge of Europe.
- John Parry

A BOU T U S
The Kaleidoscope exhibition is focused upon the merging
of many varieties of work, from short films, abstract
film making to bodies of work from the industries future
storyboard artists, CGI modellers, puppet makers, even
game developers, and much more. The coming together
of this small, but diverse, class comes together to make
something bigger than the sum of its parts. Kaleidoscope
reflects on the three years of the degree in which all students
are equally valued and individuality is always praised. It
has led its hard working participants down many paths
which will form the rest of their working careers.
