DELEGATES) AND THE CAMPSITE (FOR
THE LEADERS AND JCS).

Village site:
The site of the village is at a Secondary School in
the city of Longueuil which is in the suburbs of Montreal. It is
about 30 minutes from the airport. We can easily hop in a subway to
visit Montreal.
It is located about 2 hours away from Ottawa and 3 hours away from
Quebec city. The school has great facilities and will be very
comfortable for everyone.
Have you ever thought about how amazing it is, that when you turn your
computer, you are connected to the whole world? Our entire globe is spun
in a web of wires. They make you able to learn about, talk to, and
become friends with any part of the world. It is amazing, if you think
about it. We call it the internet, or the World Wide Web. Computer
techs created that. This summer, we will all meet and try to create a
World Wide Smile!

Smiling is the easiest thing to do. Think about something super nice,
or shout out a funny word! It’s that easy. But a smile is many things.
Maybe you wouldn’t smile and be happy if you got water and bread for your
birthday, while a boy in Africa might be smiling for weeks if he got
just that. And sometimes we smile without having reason to, like when
we get an ugly present or when you are a little ashamed of something.

Most times though, smiling is something you do because you’re happy.

And if you think about it, smiling gives you energy. If you have a
good laugh, everything you do after is much easier. Also, a smile can be
infectious. Try smiling at your mom and dad for no reason and see if
they don’t smile back at you. Smiles and happiness spread from face to face,
and sometimes from country to country. This summer, we will start with
ourselves, and build a World Wide Smile in our own little World, the village, where
we'll share tons of fun, a million smiles and four weeks of our lives.
National nights
Each delegation will have an evening to tell, show, and share about their own country. Usually,
that involves a presentation from your delegation to the rest of the camp, but it can be
anything you can think of! You may be sharing an evening with another delegation so your
presentation is about an hour. It is very nice to see national costumes for Open Day or your
National night. The JCs will also have an opportunity to have a National night.

Often, it is fun to bring a snack or some food from your country, but make sure it is easy to
prepare. Although we have lots of stores with food from other countries, please bring key
ingredients to help. Our caterer will be very happy to help you prepare it. We're very lucky to
have a caterer who loves food from other countries and prepares it very often. If you are
thinking of making special food, please let us know as soon as possible.

Description:
Canada is a huge country with rich natural resources.
The terrain is mostly plains with mountains in the West and lowlands in
the Southeast.
Canada is the second largest country in the world (after Russia) but 90% of
the population is concentrated within 160km of the United States' border.
The Canadian flag is represented by a maple leaf because we have a lot of
maple trees.

Capital: Ottawa

Weather:
In Canada, we have 4 seasons. In summer, the temperature goes up to 30°C !
We have lots of flowers and lots of tree. It’s very beautiful ! In the fall, it’s
not very hot! Trees start to lose their leaves and they change to the colors
red and orange because the don’t have enough light!
In winter, it’s very cold and we have snow, it’s very fun! The temperature
can go down to -30°C. We can slide, build snowmen, play hockey, go
skiing, build igloos with snow! In spring, the buds start to open to become
flowers! It’'s a beautiful season!
Basically, the weather in July will vary from 15 to 30 degrees celsius, often
with a humidity factor, so bring various pieces of clothing. There is also a
good possibility of rain. We never know!

Population: almost 34 million people

Language: English and French

Shopping:
It is possible to shop on Sundays. There are stores for everything you
need... almost!

Voltage & Electricity

Canadian appliances operate on 110 volts (60Hz), which is identical to the
US voltage. A universal adaptor is required for overseas electrical devices.
Main wall sockets (or power outlets) and plugs for 110 volts are two
parallel flat blades. If those sockets are different from the ones used in
your country you will need a socket converter.

welcome to bring little trading items from your country,
such as CISV t-shirts, pins, toys, bracelets, or any other
thing you can think of. Remember, small is beautiful, and it
does not have to be expensive to be nice! Also, there has
been a rumor that staffies don't like gifts and chocolate;
we would like to say this is completely untrue... :)
CISV Rules:

Going to a CISV camp means following the CISV rules. As a participant, it is

very easy. You cannot do anything that is illegal in Canada and otherwise, you
have to be nice. Just like at home. You have to respect your new friends,
their culture, their borders, and the fact that we are all different, and your
way of doing things isn’t necesarily other people's way.

For the entire village, the CISV rules stated in the R-7 form apply.
It would be great, if all leaders could read the form before arriving.

Leaders and JCs responsibilites

We expect you to be responsible and understand your duties
during the camp. If there is anything unclear about the CISV
rules or the local law, ask us!
If you want to check out on your responsibilities again, go to the
official CISV Village Guide. You can find it at

you will
be receiving pre-

then, leaders and JCs are
